OK well Im basing this on the idea that Portland needs a PG and Minny needs a SG/SF/Center. So heres an idea I've somewhat floated around the Blazers board
Blazers Trade:
Rights to Rudy Fernandez
13th pick (Rights to DeAndre Jordan)
Martell Webster
TWolves Trade:
3rd pick (Rights to Jerryd Bayless)
Greg Buckner
Blazers get their PG, and the Wolves get very good young talent to add to Foye/Jefferson. I know some here might not put too much stock into getting the rights to rudy, but hes a big deal. Hes a lock to come over here, and hes considered the best player in the world thats not in the NBA (that includes the likes of Galinari).
Bayless
Roy
Outlaw
LMA
Oden
Foye
Rudy
Webster/Gomes
Jefferson
Jordan
The odds of these 2 division rival teams actually making a trade with eachother are somewhat slim, but it helps Portland and I feel it helps Minnesota as well. Trading down from that pick gets them upgrades in 3 positions of need

Its not unfair, but if I'm MIN, I pass. They can't really afford to trade away the #3 pick and see him become a star elsewhere.
However, there's good news for POR. They don't need the third pick if they are after Bayless, because there's no way MIN picks him at #3. Talk to SEA at #4, and the price might be more economical.

Personally, I don't think Fernandez' rights hold ANY value. Because I don't think he's coming over. I know what you've read, and I know your hopes are high. But when he signs on that dotted line, then his value gets high. There is VERY tempting money being offered to him right now compared to the pittance the Blazers can extend him.

As a POR fan IMO it doesn't make much sense for MIN. They've got a few young guys who could really go either way on their squad - and they've already got 12 guys under contract for next year. They don't need another trade where they bring in volume for a single asset, they need to think about making the most of the pick by turning it into a star to play next to Jefferson. That could mean trading the pick, but I wouldn't think they'd trade it unless they got a player back who can step in and shine next to Al.

That's interesting because Pritchard and Nate have been speaking like it's a done deal. Anyone else think Rudy's rights don't hold "ANY" value?
Is the money the only reason you doubt he'll be here? What's the most he'll make in Europe? Even if he signs a "big" contract by European standards he can make at least 2-3 times that in a single season when his rookie contract ends. For comparison's sake, the first year of a max contract in the NBA is worth about the same as the entire contract he's reportedly being offered in Europe.

He can probably make the equivalent of 6 million dollars there. But that's not to say he shouldn't ever come over. In 2 years, the Blazers will be able to use MLE to sign him to a deal, or any other exceptions or cap space. I suggest he makes 12 million dollars in Europe, then signs an MLE level deal here, a short one. That way, in 4-5 years, he'll have made 24-30 million dollars, and is NOW eligible for that max contract you speak of.
However, he could be deadset on going to the NBA, because its his dream, because he doesn't like Europe...for whatever reasons. He could. But fiscally, I think it works against him.

If I'm Portland I'd take Mayo over Bayless. Mayo is a great shooter, who can defend either guard position very well, and is a solid playmaker who is also effective without the ball - he is essentially the perfect fit next to Roy.
That Minny lineup is a bit short on offense - maybe switch Outlaw for Webster? I think Webster would be a better fit anyways on that Portland squad, as Outlaw takes a lot of bad shots, and I'd rather have an efficient shooter and decent defender like Webster than an inefficient volume shooter like Outlaw who's just gonna take shots away from Roy/LMA/Oden/Mayo.
If I'm Minny, this deal would hinge on:
a) Rudy being signed/definitely coming over
b) Jordan being available at 13th
If both of these happen, I think they consider this deal, though giving up a young potential star for 3 likely roleplayers is not necessarily a great idea.

Rudy will be better straight away due to beinga few years older and having played proffessionally in europe for a few years (and being the best player over there for the past couple).
Mayo is probably the better prospect though.

The Portland fanbase seems 50/50 on whether to keep Outlaw or Webster. I'm in the Webster camp, and if switching them got it done, I'd be even happier.
a. Rudy is, at the moment, 99% coming over from everything we've heard from McMillan and Pritchard.
b. If Minny trades number 3, that means that Lopez and Love are still left to be selected by teams looking for a big, and are both players that will likely go ahead of Jordan, so I think he WILL be there, but only time will tell on that one.

true, rudy will be better right away because of his professional experience but Mayo has the superstar potential rudy's lacking.

Trust me fromwhat I've seen and read is that Rudys game is just like Manu almost to a Tee...
Do you think Manu has superstar potential..?

I agree that MN passes....I'm in the camp that believes the Wolves need to swing for the fences with this pick and hope for a star.
With that said, if you include Jaric with MN's pick instead of Buckner (basically an expiring due to a buy out), the chances of finding the right deal increase somewhat.

Ive watched a lot of Pac 10 games and I think Bayless is highly over rated and that goes for Mayo to for the fans who would take him with the 3rd pick and I doubt I would trade any two of the three assets you would give up in this trade for either one of them.Fitz303 wrote:OK well Im basing this on the idea that Portland needs a PG and Minny needs a SG/SF/Center. As a wolves fan this one definitely interests me, but I'm higher on Fernandez than most. Fernandez would compliment Brewer almost perfectly.
If the Wolves consider this, it might hinge on making a three team trade where the Wolves trade #13 and Webster to the rights to either Lopez or Love. Maybe Milwaukee at 8 would be interested? Maybe Charlotte at 9? Most mock drafts have either Love or Lopez falling that far, but it's definitely not a given.
