OT: Bad Tattoos
I was on my way to work this morning, riding the blue line, when a kid aged 19-20 sat down beside me. He was dressed like someone who didn't have a crappy office job would dress, and I noticed a tattoo on his right arm.
I could only see the bottom half of it at first, which looked to be the end of a dagger wrapped in a scroll with the words "turn pro".
I sat there for a minute trying to figure out what the hell it said. He shifted and his shirt sleeve moved up to reveal the entire tattoo. It was a dagger running down his bicep, loosly wrapped with a scroll that said the following:
When the going,
gets wierd,
the wierd,
turn pro...
Now read that again - and tell me whats wrong with it. I've read a few Hunter S books, and I'm familiar with the quote - but i have never seen it written that way.
Is that just an awful tattoo? Or is the some "too cool for school" aspect of it that I am missing?
What the hell do you do to the tattoo artist who does that?
Anyone else have any tattoo horror stories?

Marcus Fizer's question mark neck tattoo comes to mind.
As to the Hunter quote, it seems accurate to me accept for one too many commas.
One tattoo I'll always remember was when I was sitting in Tattoo Tattoo on North Avenue, waiting to get my first ink (a claddaugh on my right tricep) I was looking through some tattoo photo albums and there was a guy who got a tattoo of a snake that wrapped twice all the way around his waist, with the head of the snake going down the top of the shaft of his penis. I mean about 3-4 inches or so of tattoo on the willie.
I think I've posted about that before, and what I've always said is I can't figure how that is humanly possible. The first needle jab and my guy would have retracted like a turtle head.
While on the subject of tattoos, and again, I'm sure I've posted on the subject before, my other tattoo is the turtles from the Grateful Dead's Terrapin Station album on my left calf.

Did the tatoo artist really spell the word "weird" wrong???
Or is that your error?
If the tattoo guy did it - the victim should demand a free fixing, if he realizes there is an error, that is.
I know the rule is "i" before "e" except after "c" - bit there are exceptions, and "weird" is one of them.
Isn't that weird?

TB - Weird, is one of those weird words that does not follow the 'i' before 'e' rules.
Both the artist and the kid apparently didn't notice/know.

I read about some guy who had his name tattooed on his arm in "Chinese letters"
His name was "Jeremy" & he chose the "Chinese letters" that the tattoo artist said corresponded to those letters.
Lo & behold, a Chinese guy in a bar asked him why he had those phrases on his arms.
"Jeremy" was told that the Chinese do not have an alphabet. All those symbols on his arm meant things in Chinese & the combination made absolutely no sense at all to any Chinese person reading it. Just a lot of jibberish.
Of course, one would think that "Jeremy" would do his research before getting the tattooes, but he didnt.
Jeremy sued the tattoo parlor & the artist agreed to removed the tattooes free of charge & refund his $$

How about the guy who got a Dumbledore tat only to find out later that Dumbledore was to be revealed as being gay.
Brilliant.
Brilliant.
PROUD Paul Croft got a tattoo of Harry Potter wizard Albus Dumbledore on his back but is now being teased by pals after he was outed as gay.
Proud Paul, 36, spent a year having the Hogwarts headmaster etched into his skin as a surprise for his five kids.
But the factory worker has been the butt of jokes ever since Harry Potter author JK Rowling revealed last week that Dumbledore was in love with a fellow male sorcerer.
Paul, of Nottingham, moaned yesterday: "It's been terrible. I've always liked Dumbledore - just not in that way.
