Barbosa for Wilcox and the #24?

Post#1 » by wiff » Wed May 28, 2008 2:25 am

Any interest in trading Barbosa for Chris Wilcox and the #24 pick?

I was ticked when the Sonics passed on Barbosa for Luke Ridnour.

Every year I still get upset watching Luke pout on the bench?

So could you use the Sonics starting PF and the #24 for your 6th man?

With Shaq, Diaw, Amare and potentially Skinner. We need an athletic 3 more than a PF.

I'm still pushing for Jack and the 13th pick for Barbosa. Maybe a 2nd rounder thrown in as well.

Ehh, I think I'd rather keep Barbosa than do that trade. Jack still makes rookie mistakes. I've seen him carry the ball over, and double dribble one too many times. Too turnover prone for a point guard, and I don't really see anything that stands out. The only thing he really has going for him is his size, but he doesn't have that much potential imo.

Yeah, i would pass. This would have been nice a while ago, but is not a need anymore.

I am not sold on Jack either. Barbs does similar things, but does not pass.

If you can make it a 3 team deal where you flip Wilcox to another team and that team sends us a starting caliber 3 then it's a done deal.

I would do either trade (#24 and Wilcox OR #13, Jack and filler for Barbosa).

Wilcox could back up Amare and Shaq at the 4/5. That would push Diaw to SF, where he is better suited to play anyways. I would start Diaw over Hill though. With #15 (which we would still have, grab a guy like McGee, Alexander, Greene, Batum and at #24 you could grab a guy like Rush, CDR, Chalmers, Thompson, Lawson. Then go after a guy like Duhon or Arroyo in FA if Strawberry isn't ready for PG duties.

Nash/Strawberry
Bell/Giricek/#24
Diaw/Hill/Tucker
Amare/#15
Shaq/Wilcox

Jack has NUMEROUS advantages over Barbosa in terms of the PG position. He's more of a team player that has real passing skills. Jack actually plays defense as well. His T/O's aren't as everyone makes them out to be. He had less T/O rate than Nash did last year. With #13 & #15, they could get 2 guys to help build the future like Westbrook, Jordan, Alexander, McGee, Greene, Augustin, Speights, Batum.

Nash/Jack/#13
Bell/Giricek/Strawberry
Diaw/Hill/Tucker
Amare/#15
Shaq/Skinner

I was kind of thinking that Shaq's minutes are going to be regulated during the season. I can't imagine him playing more than 25 minutes a game during the 82 game preseason. Plug Wilcox in at PF and slide Amare over to center again.

But just floating the idea out there. If it doesn't work, that's cool.

I'm sure the Sonics can roll that package out to someone who will bite.

Thanks for the info.

Ehh I'll still pass. Portland is my second favorite team in the west. I've seen Jack a lot, you can cite stats if you'd like, but he's not all that he's cracked up to be. He's probably the only guy I've ever seen double dribble twice in a game. But, regardless of that, I don't see the leadership quality that we need. When the team struggles, he struggles. When he struggles, the team struggles. He's definitely improved, but still, productionwise I'd rather have Barbosa. With a depleted bench such as ours, you need a guy that can score in bunches. Maybe if we had a deeper bench, I would take him. But I really don't see him doing well with the supporting cast we have off the bench.

Suns don't need help at the 4 spot they need 1-3 solid back up players. And for sure an athletic 3 Starter.

I'd do it for Suns. But why would Sonics? Couldn't they draft Bayless or Moyo who potentially might be better than LB? Do they have better 4/5 than Wilcox?
