Van Gundy Sees Lakers Dynasty

The New York Post -
Former NBA coach and current ABC analyst Jeff Van Gundy believes that the Lakers are about to begin another dynasty, according to The New York Post.

"My pick, I think the Lakers are the most talented team in the league, and they're missing their third or fourth best player in Bynum," said Van Gundy on Monday.

"So when they get [Bynum] back next year, I think they can be a dynasty. The Lakers will win it this year over a very good Celtic team."

He also had this to say about the Lakers after Celtics won game 6 in Detroit:

"I think the lakers are the best offensive team in basketball, and I dont think that's even close"

JVG

ESPN"s Chris Broussard shares similar thoughts

Vahe (Glendale): Should the Lakers try and trade Bynum for a top 2 pick? How about Rose alongside Kobe?

SportsNation Chris Broussard: (2:45 PM ET ) The Lakers shouldn't do a darn thing, except wait for Big Bynum to heal up. Why would you want to mess with what they've got right now? They could win a title this year, and then with Bynum, they'll be much, much better. They'll be both a finesse team AND a power team! They're going to be unstoppable.

Now either JVG is trying to jinx them b/c of his hate for Jackson or he really means it, either way....high praise from a respectable basketball mind.

But for the time being, the team cant get caught up in this stuff, after all it's all gotta start with 1 championship first.
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

I see that happening too, but to start predicting dynasty without winning one championship is not a good idea. Let's try to win one first before predicting the dynasty.

How about getting 1 first? The C's must be foaming at the mouth with all this Lakers new dynasty talk. Most of the talking heads are taking the Lakers in 5 or 6, Boston must be irate. They are hardened vets over there.

Get the first ring then let the dynasty talk begin.

In 79-80 the Lakers were young outside of Kareem and reeled off 5 in 9. They had MVP caliber KAJ in his 12th season (like Kobe), an experienced vet role starter in Chones (like Fisher), and a bunch of young talent:
Magic 20, Nixon 24, Wilkes 26, Cooper 23, Landsberger 26, Holland 23 in the rotation.

I guess Van Gundy won't be back coaching anytime soon. I mean why bother, we're going to win the title every year.

It's funny I said that 1 month ago and I said they have the talent being that Kobe is the best ever even if people are to afraid to say it (althouh in a couple years when he has 6 or more rings and the alltime scoring title they will jump right on the bandwagon) that they have a chance to be as good or better as the Magic dynasty and I was torn apart for it.
Alot of people don't have the guts to compare or realize something better can be coming along.
The Magic dynasty had 3 hall of famers but Kobe-Gasol-Bynum plus Odom can challenge them or even be better.

Van Gundy has been gushing over us ever since he saw Bynum explode this year. He also said throughout the Laker games he would broadcast that he liked our young guys a lot who weren't afraid to shoot.

But when Bynum went down, he said the Lakers would be battling for the 7th/8th spot while possibly missing the playoffs. I was miffed at such a prediction because it sounded like a repeat of last season. At the time I hoped that the old lineup from the latter part of the 05/06 could hold the boat. Instead, it was mostly .500 ball. Kwame was regressing and Odom was struggling after Bynum went down. That would have defnitely made us missed the playoffs in hindsight. Looks like he saw the importance of Bynum.

When Gasol was on board, he immediately thought we were contenders again.

So far he has had the right idea. I also like that article where he explained that late in the game the Lakers like to use Kobe isolation more often. The best recent example was the Spurs Game 5 where Kobe dominated the 4th quarter with a few chip ins from other guys.

no ones afraid to say anything.,...u make it seem like kobe is CLEARLY the greatest player ever, and no one else comes close..

well you're wrong...kobe has the tools and skills just as good as anybody..but until the end of his career...you cant say hes better than jordan just yet...cause until then...jordan holds the title for the best player to ever play..

I think when Kobe retires he will be the best but yeah sure he hasn't done as much as Jordan yet but Kobe in his prime which is basically now is better then Jordan in his prime.

They still need to change the roster though and for Farmar to become a almost star, a 14 and 7 guy. They would also need to get Kobe's compliement sf if Bynum is to come back healthy. They need to get that lock down sf for Farmar to reach his potential aand then in 09 there true dynasty can begin. Even though they can win a ring now the team is not perfectly built yet.
