Camp measurements

Joey Dorsey is a bit shorter than I thought, but fits my 2nd round bruising PF mold to a T.

The player who's specs jumped out at me was:

JaVale McGee 6' 11" 7' 0" 241.0 7' 6" 9' 6.5" 5.3

9 foot 6 and 1/2 inch standing reach, just a little longer than Brook Lopez (I assume Robin too although he wasn't listed) and DeAndre Jordan.

Review and spout off about what's more important standing reach or wingspan (I honestly don't know).

And what about Joe Alexander? Vertical - 38,5" witch is good for the 10. place ; Bench press (24) and 3/4 court (2,99) 2.! Strength and Speed...This is Alexander.

I would say wingspan is more important for guards. Standing reach is more important for bigs.

Haha Beasley is 6-7? It's so hilarious how college teams lie on player heights. Do they think NBA Scouts won't notice?

Measurements always use the height with shoes, to Beasley's credit he didn't go out and get thick ass soles. He's about an inch shorter than you'd like but he has a massive wingspan and he's strong, which is important for rebounding at this level unless you got Marion hops (Beas pushed 185lbs 19 times compared to Durant's 0 times last year).

The other guy who isn't as big as folks though is Rose. Probably won't hurt his stock because he and Augustin are the only pure PGs and he's a beast and a half of an athlete.

The 3 guys that I find the most interesting are Gordon, Mayo, and Bayless. They all, predictably, are ridiculously good athletes. Gordon is the shortest but he's built like a tank, jumps out the gym, and has really long arms. He has to play the 2 at this level because he doesn't have pg skills at all, I think he can cut it. Bayless will probably have to play the point, he's thin with short arms so dudes will just post him up or shoot over him at the 2. Mayo came through with the athleticism and he's actually near legit 2 guard size.

Randolph is only 197 pounds. That's pretty weak although he did do well on the bench press. Mayo is also 3-4 inches shorter and 26 pounds lighter than Joe was in 2001. I thought that was interesting since we were comparing them.

I still think we are about to have to see a Glenn Robinson like shift in Beasleys game.

He isn't that freakishly long like, say, a Elton Brand where his height isn't that big of a deal. Trying to be a post up guy in the NBA while not having freakish length and being shorter for your position is going to be tough. He is going to have to face up alot(and I think he will still be dominant in doing it. I just don't think he is going to be a post up threat).

Rip...Horford just played an entire season at center and Beasley is just as strong as Horford with the same standing reach...but he's much quicker with a better jumpshot and ball handling skills. Beasley is going to be a matchup nightmare in the NBA. He's going to be just as good of a rebounder as Horford(not sure about his post defense)and MUCH better offensively.

he is still taller than Brand and Boozer.

I didn't say he wouldn't be great offensively. I said he isn't going to be the post up threat people think he is going to be. people are acting like he is going to be backing guys down drawing doubles. Just like Glenn Robinson who was a nasty post player in college, he is going to have to adjust his game, because honestly, the kid is closer to the SF than a PF.

i still expect REALLY close to 20-10 out the kid if he goes to the right team. I am not saying he isn't going to be really REALLY REALLY good (although I disagree about hime being just as strong as Horford), just saying his offensive game is going to look different than what it did in college. And he has the skills to change it and still be dominant.

Are we looking at the same guy? He doesn't have the bulk that Brand and boozer have. they both have 20-30lbs on him.

Not that he can't gain it because its in his frame, but I am not sure he should. I think a ridiculous mismatch guy at the 4 like Smith will work for him. he just isn't going to be punking guys on the block like he used to.

guys- Beasley is also a freshman. Remember the pics of Shaq as a freshman? who even knows what Brand and Boozer looked like after their freshman year.

Rip I think Beasley is just as strong as Horford. Horford at 21 was 246 pounds and benched 185 20 times. Beasley at 19 is 239 and benched 185 19 times. He also led the nation in rebounding.

He will be primarily a face up player in the NBA and there's nothing wrong with that. So are Chris Bosh,Dirk,Amare,Elton Brand,David West,KG,etc. No one calls these players "closer to a 3 than a 4". It's easier to attack people off the dribble than post up in today's league anyway. He can easily hit the college 3 and reportedly hit the NBA 3 with ease at his workout at the pre-draft camp(I don't anticipate him shooting that shot in the NBA though). He also has very good ball handling skills for a 4. I don't see how anyone is going to be able to guard him.
