MIN-NJN
Here's our part of a multi-team deal from a NJ fan on the trade board, that might be worth discussing:
NJN GETS: #3 (Mayo) + Jaric
MIN GETS: Marcus Williams, Sean Williams, the 10th pick, and the 13th pick
Depending on who's still there at 10 and 13, it might be tough to say "no" if this were offered on draft day. I'm like most of us MIN fans, and I want to swing for the fences with the pick, and try to add a potential superstar in Mayo, but this deal may give us 2-3 at bats, with guys with a lower batting average but still that kind of potential. As Winter Wonder posted, roster size may be an issue, but 5 assets (moving Jaric is an asset too) might be enough quantity to make up for the quality.

Too good to pass up. We get a backup PG and Frontline player that should mesh well with Al. Then we get Alexander or Gallinari at 10 (whichever falls), and take a big man with #13- role the dice on either McGee or Jordan. Problem with the Williamses is their character problems. Not sure Taylor/Mchale would be too gung ho about that.
Foye/Williams
Brewer/McCants
Alexander or Gallinari/Gomes
Jefferson/Williams
Williams/McGee or Jordan
This trade completely fills up the roster. We could then start dealing our picks next year with our expiring contracts and be set up for the next decade.

NJN fans are down on Sean Williams because he supposedly never progressed.
I also made a suggestion that if we couldn't get players McHale liked at 10 and 13 because they were already gone, NJN could replace that value sending us the #21 or a future 1st for Craig Smith and Telfair (back home). NJN's bench would be slimmed down, so they could use them, and we'd never have the court time to play the two rfa's anyway.

The original on the trade board had Devon Harris out to Portland for Webster, #13, and Sergio.
That was how it became M. Williams, S. Williams, #10, and #13 for Jaric and #3.
It comes down to who was available at the picks.
Here is how the roster space breaks down (copied fromt he original thread).
Just to re-look at the roster crowding if the trade went down.
Under contract
Foye
McCants (last yr)
Brewer
Jefferson
Jaric (being traded out)
Madsen
Buckner (exp)
Walker (exp)
RFA's
Telfair
Snyder
Gomes
Smith
Richards
Picks
#10
#13
#31
#34
Buckner and Walker are essentially expirings and could be bought out, I believe, if nec.
We also have, potentially, three first next year (Bos, Mia, Min). Miami's is protected top 10 next year, Min is protected from LAC as top 10 as well.
#31 and #34 could be international prospects and left over seas for development (I am fairly sure they will do this with one of the picks).
So now we add in M. Williams and S. Williams. That is 10 players under contract not taking into account picks and RFA's
Snyder is likely gone, so no worries there I guess.
Telfair was more than serviceable, but I think will head to NY area, maybe NJ if they trade away M. Williams.
Gomes is top priority in regards to RFA's and should be ressigned.
Smith is a favorite, but concerns are whether he meshes well enough on the floor with Al Jefferson and may not be in long term plans.
Richards is cheap for a back up center and probably has as good a chance of returning or better than Smith.
So if we only sign two, say Gomes and Richards, and only bring in three of the draft picks (one being stashed overseas) we can slip in at the max 15 players this year.
Next year with, probably, only two contracts coming off the books, assuming we keep McCants (may or may not happen) and barring any other trades. We have two roster spots for 3 first round picks. Now, Madsen would be expiring this year and could possibly be bought out (and brought into the organization in another capacity I am sure).
So, again, it would be tight, but could be doable with the biggest expense losing a few RFA's and having to potentially buy out a few expirings.
Now I am sure if we were headed in this direction, more trades and such would be made, but this gives an idea of where the Wolves are at.
Overall, I am liking it more and seeing it as more doable, but again, would need the right prospects available at #10 and #13.

Hard to pass up imo...
Jordan or McGee\Williams\Al
Al\Williams
Alexander\Brewer
Brewer\McCants
Foye\williams
Plus more cap space next year...

I find it hard to believe anyone would fault the wolves for passing on Love or Lopez for Mayo. Joe Alexander could have a better career than Michael Beasley too, or Omer Asik could be the best player in the draft. There are no sure things in the draft.Devilzsidewalk wrote:and if Love or Lopez blows up we'll look like even bigger idiots for drafting a guard and passing up on 2 young promising bigmen when we're playing SFs at PF and PFs at C

Actually caught a mistake in my post. With Jaric being traded out, puts us at 9 contracts with the two Williams.
1. Foye/M. Williams
2. McCants/Buckner
3. Brewer
4. Jefferson/Walker/Madsen
5. S. Williams
Then add Gomes for sure, probably Richards and 3 of our 4 picks (one staying over seas). This leaves one roster spot for a FA (center?) or an RFA (Smith?).
Even more doable.

Wouldn't you rather have Lee, Rose, and the 6 for Toine and the 3? Sean Williams is nice, but Marcus Williams is a scrub and you could still draft Lopez.

How is walker an expiring? I agree with the AJ backup reference, but you guys must realize the #3 has way more value than a bad contract, role players, and a couple of crap shoot picks.
