He sandbagged most of a season. He was the single biggest malfunction in our unusable bench for 75% of the games. His attitude was crippling to any playoff hopes. Goofy postgame interviews don't make an attitude. Your efffort does.

Al's attitude (and play) was 1000X Pete's this season but Al cathces hell?

Eff you.

:x

He was the biggest malfunction? Are you blind? Pietrus may have been erratic at times but he did bring a lot of energy to games during crucial situations. A lot of nicely timed blocked shots and rebounds. I love Al... but Pietrus was the 2nd best off the bench after Al. The biggest malfunction was Matt Barnes. He didn't do a damn thing. Yet I recall you saying good things about him...i can't figure them out though.

I wouldn't mind Petey sticking around for a while longer. The last thing we need is to lose actual NBA players. When the defending champs want one of your players, that should be a sign that he's worth something.

I love to see the team's success resting on the capable shoulders of Matt Barnes and Mickael Pietrus. We're fine.

Ok, I kind of ignored Barnes. I'll be totally honest. I gave Barnes a free pass this year . . . dead mother and all. Plus Nellie never really gave him any court time to try and right his game. He was written off pretty quick, so one could say that he was less harmful by just being kept out of the way (yes it's a stretch.) I pretty much file Barnes season with Thud's: incomplete due to injury (emotional injury.)

Ask me today, which guy do I re-sign (cost considered) to give me his best from the bench, in snyc with the team, and to bring an emotional lift night in and night out? I take Matt Barnes for a bounce back year over Pete 9 times out of 10. Pete only tried hard when Nellie forced him into the starting lineup. It was a sham and I would never count on a guy with his ego/overestimation of his talent as a consistent bench roleplayer.

Eff Pete.

And it's good to hear Nelson saying we have plenty of guards/wings in his latest propoganda spiel. By my count, we currently have two wings under contract if we're still calling Al Harrington a power forward.

Stephen Jackson and Marco Belinelli.

Nelson is campaigning again.

Eff Pietrus!

He's standing in the way of more Wright. Get him outta here fast and all of his distractions. He's a decent player but you can't count on him.

Gimme Wright and let him eat up all of those Pietrus minutes. I'll bet Brandan never steps out of bounds.

That was an even bigger problem. Nellie's unfounded confidence in Pete was the biggest obstacle to getting Brandan rotation minutes at the PF position. Pete not being dealth for a PF or a PG this past summer was Nellie's biggest excuse for playing small far too often. He was supposed to be gone an replaced by a more vital position player at the point or a big, and we didn't do it because we didn't want to trade for anyone who came with a legitimate NBA contract in tow.

Eff Pete and Cohan.

I'll bet Brandan will never shoot a corner three. I bet Brandan will never play PF regularly under Nelly, He is too tall. I bet Brandan will never hustle trying to save a possession even though it is for potentially risking your career.

For me MP is just this wacky innocent. While for most (almost all?) players, i would put public trade demands into the "must have bad attitude" bin, I make an exception for MP.

He may frequently suck out there but I love his attitude between the stripes and on the bench. It's one of his bright spots. He's just a big kid who can have a tantrum about wanting a trade and then forget all about it once the ball gets inbounded.

FTR, I really didn't have a huge probelm with Pete wanting to be traded. I wanted him to be traded. It was best for him and best for us that he move on for value last summer.

My perception of his attitude really didn't come from the trade demands off the court. It came from things I saw on the court on the defensive end. I saw a guy who used to be a pretty tenacious (even if not particularly precise or efficient) footwork defender turn into a hot dog. Lot's of dumb fouls going for sportscenter moment plays. That REALLY bugged me because he went away from one of the strongest aspects of his game in favor of plays that would get him attention.

His offensive foibles never did bother me all that much. Once he realized that he wasn't in charge of taking guys off the dribble I was fine with his limited contribution and corner 3 ball. On the defensive end is where he really lost me. He was always trying to make the spectacular play often to the detrement of the defensive posession when he was supposed to be one of the guys who could/would just stay in front of his man. His floorgame defense went to piss this season, and it looked like mostly effort based failures during the 45 game long sulk. When his effort would bottom out for most of a posession, missing rotations, and not staying in front of people, but then he would jump out of his shoes for a totally uneccessary block attempt (and foul) as the third defender comming over to help (and late) I saw an attitude problem in his play.

It's a lot like having a hitter in a slump who won't stop trying to go yard. He wont sacrifice, he won't look for a walk, he won't hit for the gaps. The poor dumb bastard is sure that if he hits a bomb, it will all be better. If he's normally a good hitter, you let him struggle with it his way for a while, but when the guy starts waving off bunt signs, and swinging at 3-1 curveballs, you have to sit him down. And chew him out. And kick him in the snatch.

I'm a guy who tries to see the players side of most things as well, but I just didn't see his act as as "innocent" as you did. I saw a lot of self interest and self promotion hurting his play.

sleepy ftw. not that it matters all that much, but i agree w/ every single word sleepy's put out there about mp. the comment on his defense was the clincher for me. i had real high expectations about the kid's defense after his rookie year, but i truly don't think he has the aptitude to understand how much he let the team down.
