Yes the spurs won the championship last year but this year they weren't as good. Not only did the celtics do better during the regular season but also the were hurt (Ginobili) during the Laker series. It's arguable for both sides really but it isn't that far fetched to think that the celts are better than the spurs were the lakers just beat.

Well I suppose that will be decided after this series.

The Celtics can play better, sure, but the Lakers can play a whole lot better too. I mean, as a Lakers fan, I didn't think the game was out of hand until midway through the 4th, which is saying something given the overall intensity the Celtics were playing with the entire game and the enthusiasm the crowd was injecting into them.

I think it was a lot of nerves. So many shots rattled in and out, which happens on road games. I remember at least 4 of Kobe's midrange jumpshots which rimmed in and out, and a few of the other guys. I mean, if Kobe's shots had stayed in suddenly he's 13 of 26 and nobody is saying the Celtics shut down anything. 4 shots. That's nothing. Not to mention, if the guys can gather themselves, they might be able to hit their free throws too.

I expect to see that happen in game 2. I don't feel like the Lakers are in dire straits at all.

Even though the Lakers lost last nights game was pretty entertaining. I think both teams can play better. But with Boston's focus on defense there will be certain guys that aren't clicking offensively. It's just logic not everyone is going to be on every night. They expend most of their effort on defense.

Two things about KG's performance last night. He got what he wanted early on. The Lakers adjusted and disrupted his rhythm. And you could tell he was out of whack in the fourth other than a monstrous dunk. But average wise KG's gonna give you the same numbers every night. It's just a matter of how efficient he is.

The key was other guys stepping up for Boston. PJ, Cassell, and Pose produced last night. The Lakers got minimal production from their bench. So they can obviously play better. Kobe had an off night credit to Boston's defense but some of those shots are shots he's been hitting on a nightly basis. Collectively Boston wanted it more than the Lakers. After the whole Pierce fiasco LA's play regressed.

Watching highlights again, Boston's defense basically consists of this: anybody penetrates into the key and there's about 4 people running up to him to contest the shot. You see this especially on the pick and roll with Kobe-Gasol. All the Lakers needed to do was to send a third guy cutting at an angle coming in behind Gasol and they get a layup.

Also I think PJ needs to go into his bench a little deeper and play Farmar and Ariza along with Kobe/Odom/Gasol for more energy. Ariza in particular, because his length can bother Allen and Pierce to a certain extent.

The kid just got back from suspension for doing the same thing, spamming the boards with the same post over and over. Hopefully the mods will take care of him for good this time.

Pierce injury update: would not play if the game was tonight but probably will play on Sunday. Thank god for the extra days.

"If I'm not mistaken, I think Willis Reed missed a whole half and three quarters almost of a game and literally had to have a shot, a horse shot, three or four of them in his thigh to come back out and play," Jackson said. "Paul got carried off and was back on his feet in a minute.

"I don't know if the angels visited him . . . in that timeout period that he had or not, but he didn't even limp when he came back out on the floor. I don't know what was going on there. Was Oral Roberts back there in their locker room?" Jackson said, making a reference to the controversial American televangelist who preached the possibility of miracles.

You gotta love Philbert and his sense of humor.

i didn't say nothing against the rules, i'm simply expanding on what Pierce said 'that angel helped celtics win'

just because you don't believe in angels, religion, you shouldn't judge others. May god bless your soul.

Those people who are whining and griping over Pierce's injury or lack of one, who cares/why though?

If he's hurt, and isn't badly hurt (to you), how DO YOU KNOW (for sure)?

If someone's hurt, they are hurt! Let them do w/ever they want to do to recover. -- Don't sit here and throw out silly motions of "he's just milking it, or he's just looking for attention or he's a drama queen"

That's all silly non-sense. -- You don't know how hurt he is, even if he is hurt, just it be.....
