Bigger breaks between games

Post#1 » by Farsi Man » Fri Jun 6, 2008 8:48 pm

My friend doesn't really watch sports but sometimes I tell him random basketball stuff anyway and I told him how they try to stretch out the finals as much as possible and how sundays are the big ratings day. So then he brought up a good question.

Why don't they just have a week between each game and a game on sunday. This stretches out the finals to potentially 7 weeks. And gives you more ratings because it's on sunday and it definitely hypes things up more. And rests the players and allows the coaches to strategizes more.

People will forget it after a game.

The weeks break between the conference finals and real finals was brutal. Now we gotta wait three more days for game 2? Have the game every other day for christ's sake, this is not the NFL

I'd hate that just because a weeks seems too long! I would think player would lose any mojo they build in a game and games would be sloppy to begin with. It would make injuries less of a factor for sure.

I prefer every other day, two days max really. I week between games would absolutely kill the finals. I mean god seven weeks? There wouldn't be any kind of flow to the series.

Exactly. I think they have too much of a break between games as it is. And that whole week off before the start of the series was awful. I found myself losing some of my excitement for the series, and I'm not exactly the casual viewer the NBA is trying to draw in.

Also they want the schedule to somewhat follow the regular season schedule. Players get used to player every other day if not back to back. Give them a week off and they will probably injure themselves.
