WTF, and who with a sane mind would miss such an opportunity.

it was a direct quote

Considering what Memphis ended up selling Gasol for, we probably had the chance to trade Maurice Ager for Pau Gasol.

I love Pau to death but like in any other "scoring power forward trade" (i.e. Randolph) -- it's not a good deal unless it's for a bag of magic beans. Why? Dirk is guaranteed 35 minutes at worst which would mean that PF (in this case Pau) would have to see time at center. Dirk and Pau defending the paint... help me god.

So as much as we're down on what Howard has devolved to during the last 2 years, sorry, but we'll pass.

It's simple. In L.A. you have a perennial all-defensive 1st teamer in Kobe and a bunch of other guys who could also D up crazy, and an over-all good team defensive philosophy. There's also the Bynum factor which could negate Gasol's defensive inadequacies even more.

Cuban destroyed the Mavs chance to win a CHIP. Dirk and Gasol would be murder. You can EASILY find a replacement SF GUARANTEED within a couple of years, but your team will probably never have another shot at getting such a skilled big. Shaq is no longer a factor in the NBA and Gasol defended Tim Duncan admirably in route to a Lakers victory so who is the dominant center that presents such problems that a Mavs fan wouldn't want Gasol guarding centers? LOL at any Dallas homer that would keep Howard over Gasol. I can't believe this trade didn't happen. Gasol inside and Dirk outside for just weed smoking SF Howard? WOW Cuban and Donnie really screwed that one up

^^ the trade didnt happen because jerry west couldnt stand seeing the celtics build another dynasty so he sent gasol to LA for a happy meal... no amount of talent would stop him from working his backroom magic to help LA.... lol

Ah, so those were mini-Gasol's who were doubling (triple team even) Duncan then. But they were black though, so maybe his non-union African-American equivalents.

I wouldn't bat an eyelash in trading Howard if it made sense. This one doesn't as I already expounded to in detail.

I've got to agree that I wouldn't have done this deal. Duncan exposed Gasol in the wc finals. I think Pau is a guy that will help you rack up a lot of regular season wins, but put him against elite competition and he's very average.

The issue is that to make that trade Dallas would have to send out a boat load of extra salary because Josh was BYC. Unless that salary was Damp and we kept Diop it doesn't make sense to destroy the rotation for a VERY good 4-5 when those are two of our 3 best positions on the floor.

AFTER the Kidd trade, that move would have made more sense, but even if the excess trade pieces were Stack and Jones we would have had no SF (George), a mini SG (JET), and nothing but Antoine Wright to back them up.
10:20 (pm, 6/29/06) The Mavs take Maurice Ager at No. 28... Ager walks up to the stage in a triple-breasted, oversized beige suit, goes to shake hands with Stern and immediately gets whistled for a foul on Dwyane Wade.

Twin towers, and twin 20pt scoring mobile towers at that?

That should have been a no brainer. And its not as if the two guys would have gotten in each other's way on offense since one plays mostly inside and the other mostly outside.

Since that would have been before the Kidd trade, you have Jet and Devin aroudn for shooting and defense up top, Damp or Diop or both around for spells of defense in the middle...aargh.
