Balkmania 1st Round Mock w/ Analysis

Post#1 » by balkmania » Sat Jun 7, 2008 4:26 am

1 Bulls Michael Beasley PF- Best player available. 20/10 guy to put next to Deng for the next 10 years.

2 Heat Derrick Rose PG- Rose/Wade/Marion/Haslem, pretty good start to the rebuilding process. That core would not be too far away from contending in the East.

3 TWolves OJ Mayo PG/SG- IMO BPA. He will start as the 6th man to Foye and McCants as a combo-guard. Eventually, he could replace one in the starting lineup as he can defend the PG or SG.

4 Sonics Jerryd Bayless PG/SG- Rumored Seattle likes Bayless at this spot. He is a self-claimed scoring guard and will add some explosiveness and athletisim to form a nice core with Durant, Green, and Wilcox.

5 Grizzlies Kevin Love PF/C - Fundamental big-man who can really do it all. Honestly I think he compares to Pau Gasol at the NBA level. He might not be as good as Gasol was as a rookie, but will surely be starting in the frontcourt by the years end.

6 Knicks Joe Alexander SF- Unbelievable athlete. Had an unreal end to the season putting up huge numbers against Big East competition and was a huge reason WV knocked off Duke in the tourny. The guy keeps getting better and loves to run up and down the court. Yea, Isiah has drafted and aquired several SF's in recent years, but quite frankly I don't think Walsh and D'Antoni give a **** who is currently on the roster.

7 Clippers Eric Gordon SG - Replaces Mobley at the 2-guard. Great scorer. Will fit in nicely with Thorton, Kaman, and most likely Brand for the future. This is seemingly a unanimous pick in mock-drafts and is very likely.

8 Bucks Danilo Gallianri SF- They pick for a need, SF. He could be what Dunleavy was supposed to be (and finally was last season), he could be what Turkoglu was supposed to be (and finally was last season), or he could follow those guys and be a very talented player who takes a very long time to reach his potential.

9 Bobcats Russell Westbrook PG/SG - I think Larry Brown would like a combo-guard with some defensive ability to back up Felton and JRich. Westbrook's physical tools will fit in with the Bobcats.

10 Nets Brooke Lopez C- A 7 footer falls into the Nets lap. They have no choice but to take him if he is there at #10.

11 Pacers DJ Augustin PG - Would replace Tinsley and become the PG of the future. Might have the potential to make everyone around him a little bit better and resurect JO's career.

12 Kings Anthony Randolph SF/PF The Kings can't upgrade at PG with all the top PGs off the baord at this point. Randolph has a ton of potential and the Kings could be a nice fit for him to develop.

13 Blazers Donte Greene SF Great shooter and things would be very simple for him in the Blazers' offense with Roy running the show and Aldridge and Oden kicking it out of the post. Donte is a top talent and has all-star potential even if he showed he was lazy on D and inefficent on O at Cuse.

14 Warriors D'Andre Jordan C Athletic big man. Will take time to develop but Don Nelson has already alluded to how management wants him to bring Belinelli and Brandon Wright along in their progression so why not add a big man project with a lot of potential to the mix.

15 Suns Brandon Rush SG/SF Pick was rumored on DX and the Suns want a player who is ready to contribute. Rush is a good defender and shooter. Also, he brings championship experience and does appear to be the type of competitor Kerr would like to have.

16 76ers Darrell Arthur PF Athletic big man and low-post scorer. Just what the 76ers could use. Iggy could play some 2 with Thad at the 3 and Arthur at the 4. Add Miller, Lou Will, Reggie Evans and The Hatian Sensation-- this team is in good shape to be a mainstay in the playoffs for several years.

17 Raptors Chris Douglas Roberts SG Bosh complained in the playoffs guys didn't know where to be and what to do at times. CDR brings big-game experience, leadership, and scoring ability to a team that will need some scoring. Calderon, Delfino, Moon, Parker, Nesterovic etc. are not exactly guys who can put the ball in the hoop. They get the best scorer available at #17.

18 Wizards Roy Hibbert C With DeShawn playing well, the Wizards' biggest need is size and depth at C. I think Gilbert and Jamison will end up staying so the Wizards gamble on local Hoya big-man.

19 Cavs Ty Lawson PG Rumors say Lawson will stay if he is guarenteed in the top 20. Everyone is guessing he will go at 20 to the Nuggets. But why not the Cavs? Delonte and Gibson are closer to SG's than point guards, and aren't exactly explosive combo-guards. Lawson can score and push the pace and has experience playing with very talented players. He would be a nice fit for Lebron's team.

20 Nuggets Nicolas Batum SF Listed as a SF, but is versitile. Batum could be a nice role-player on the super-athletic Nuggets. I think Batum is a SF closer to a 2-guard and Kleiza is a SF closer to a PF, so having both those guys can work nicely off the bench.

21 Nets Chase Buddinger SG Very talented SG. Can shoot it and throw it down. Would be a perfect replacement for Nachbar who they probably won't resign.

22 Magic Marese Spreights PF Potential to become the starting PF for the squad. Nice all-around offensive skills and could work well next to Superman in the frontcourt. Could be the steal of the draft.

23 Jazz Robin Lopez C Defensive minded role-player to back up Okur. Lopez will become a nice rebounder and the Jazz solidify their frontcourt depth: Boozer/Millsap, Okur/Lopez.

24 Sonics Kosta Kufos C Once projected to be a top 5 pick in this draft-class, Kufos will more than likely slip out of the top 15. If he slips to the Sonics at 24, they have to consider taking him, as he is more talented and proven (even as a Freshman) than any of their other big-man draft picks in recent years.

25 Rockets Gary Forbes SG/SF It would be tempting to take Javale McGee here, but the team also needs depth on the wing pretty badly. Plus, Dikembe Mutombo can be Yao's backup until he is 60. Forbes really helped his stock by dominating in Orlando and I can't see him not going in the first round.

26 Spurs Bill Walker SG/SF - They want to get younger and more athletic. They tried with James "Flight" White last year and might have more success with Walker who although not a great shooter, can really fly down the court and might turn into a solid wing player, learning under great great veteran players.

27 Hornets Javale McGee C- Can't pass on him at this point. They need a backup center so this would be an easy pick. The guy is a project so it would not be all that crazy to see him slip this far IMO.

28 Grizzlies Devon Hardin PF/C They go big again and find a big and strong athlete to pair with Warrick, Darko, and Love in the frontcourt. The Grizzlies will have a lot of assets for trades down the road.

29 Pistons DJ White SF/PF Rumored by DX they like him here. Last year the rumor was Hardin but he did not enter. The Stuckey guarentee ended up being true last year, and White already did not want to work-out with the Pacers who pick at 41. This pick is very possible.

30 Celtics Alexis Ajinaca C The team is in the finals. Why not take a chance on the best international big available. I have never seen guys like Ajinaca, Jawaii, or Ibaka play so the Celtics might give one of those guys a look at this spot. JJ Hickson and Devon Jefferson are also late first round possibilities.

Pistons did NOT make a promise to DJ White. In fact, Dumars said that he's looking to trade the Pistons 1st rounder.

FWIW, Gabe Pruitt also claimed to have a promise from the Pistons last year.... he was a liar as well.

Ty Lawson is a bad fit for the Cavaliers. His inability to make shots off the dribble or with range or be effective off the ball take him out of the picture.

Also, he isnt going to not make Sasha Pavlovic and Ben Wallace not suck.

Why did you put "Back up Turkoglu" in your Jazz analysis?

Yeah I don't think that the Cavs will take Lawson just not a good fit for their team.

Few Things

-Brook Lopez is not going to fall to number 10. Let's be real man.

-Joe Alexander 6? I love the man, but dude come on Joe Alexander wouldn't be the right choice in that area.

-Chase Budinger is too low. I could see him going to the Cavaliers.

-Marreesse Speights is too low also.
