Dyess dosnt really get me excited for a couple of reasons. First, he's only 6'9" so he is a little smaller than Al. Second, he's already 34 and going downhill.... not a great fit for the Wolves IMHO

I'd do it even with BOS or MIA's #1 next year though I'm not sure if Sheed would like to play in Minny but IMO he would be THE perfect compliment to Big Al. he can defend the big men fairly easily, can stretch the floor and I'm sure we fans would be entertained (be it positively or negatively) by Sheed more than often

Pistons fan here. Of the starters, Prince is probably second only to Hamilton in what Dumars would expect back in a trade. I'm assuming you wouldn't be interested in giving up Foye, #3 or obviously Jefferson. However, those are your three best trading chips and it'd be tough to get back the Pistons' second best asset without giving up any of your top 3. I doubt the Pistons want anything to do with Walker either.
What about Jaric, Brewer and McCants for Prince? Trade ID# 4640500.

I think Brewer has Prince-like potential, too, but he doesn't yet have anywhere near Prince-like value. I think Jaric could be useful to Detroit, but his contract makes him a neutral piece at best. In reality, Detroit would probably look at taking on Jaric as a negative. I don't think McCants is enough to offset that.

I'd actually take any of the three guys who've been mentioned (Billups, Hamilton, Sheed.) They've all got rings and they've all got some tread left on the tire.
I agree that the Pistons do this to shed salary and get younger; they're not shipping out Johnson, Stuckey or especially Prince (who's got the experience and is still young enough to become more of an offensive option.) I love Sheed but I wouldn't risk the #3 pick on a guy who could walk after next year... what about:
Walker (exp), McCants and #3
for
Maxiell and Hamilton
Pistons get younger and shed salary while keeping the guys (Wallace and Billups) whose games will age the best.
The Wolves get the best 2-guard in their franchise's history... the best conditioned guy in the league who'll show the Pups how to play the right way. Maxiell would provide terrific energy next to Jefferson, and given a chance to start he might be able to duplicate the contributions made by his mentor, Ben Wallace. His value balances out the Wolves giving up the #3 pick:
The Wolves core then becomes:
Jefferson, Maxiell, Gomes and Smith in the frontcourt
Foye, Hamilton, Brewer and Telfair in the backcourt
There'd be decisions to make in free agency... the Wolves would need another shooter and a seven footer (Diop?) who can bang with the really big centers in the West, but I think Hamilton's influence would go a long way toward making the young Wolves winners.

Re: Hamilton + Maxiell for Mccants + #3
Interesting idea. I like both players a lot, but I think I'd rather have 4 years of Mayo and his rookie contract then Hamilton. But I could say the same for just about nay player because by the time the rest of the pups are ready to contend, Hamilton's prime will be in the rearview mirror.

Right... I think of players like Ron Harper and Michael Finley, former stars who became solid role players on title teams. Hamilton could be that guy by the time Foye, Jefferson and Brewer are ready to be stars.

We definitely could use players like that when the times comes, but you don't trade your chance at your teams Michael Jordan or Tim Duncan for the Finley or Harper piece that you need. Those players can be signed for the mid-level when the time comes. Maybe we could sign Hamilton or a similar player with the mid-level when his contract is up and the rest of our team is ready to contend, i.e. 3 or 4 years from now. No need to trade for him now.

I agree, but I also think when you consider their draft position and potential, the Wolves already have their Duncan (Jefferson), and maybe their Billups (Foye.) You only need so many stars. Those guys need to learn how to win, too.
I'm not at all in favor of giving up Mayo for nothing, but I don't think it's too early to expect the young guys to start winning - look at how San Antonio handled Tony Parker when he came into the league, or all the young guys on the Lakers' roster. Hamilton would help push the Wolves' timetable along now and still have something left in the Finley/Harper stage of his career.
