Fans want Russell statue in Boston

yeah it's all good but with all due respect to Bill, Larry Bird is the face of the franchise. Like Jordan and Magic for their teams thus earning the right to have their statues in the stadiums.

Maybe they can make one for both of them.

What Russell did was incredible, especially during that time period in this country. He did so much for the game in more ways than one.

He is the ultimate and greatest winner in sports history IMO.

I beg to differ. I'm surprised they haven't already honored him. They could do two statues.

Why does only one have to be erected? The Jazz have statues of Stockton and Malone. And outside the Staples Center, there are statues of Magic and Gretzky and there's one planned for Oscar De La Hoya.

Russell should get a statue of him blocking a shot, Bird should get a statue of him shooting a three, and Bill Belichick should get a statue of him taping play signals of the opposing team. :D

It would be about time... although honestly, they should be having a statue of Red Auerbach first. But IIRC Red Auerbach is already sitting at Quincy Market.

RED AUERBACH is the face of the franchise. Larry is just one of his pupils.

Only for people below a certain age.

With all due respect to Larry Joe, Russell had challenges Bird never faced.

For example, Russell was matched up against Wilt Chamberlain in almost 13% of all pro games he ever played.

From 1965 through 1967 the Eastern Conference only had 4 or 5 teams. One of those teams had Russell and another had Chamberlain.

I can't imagine being Jerry Lucas, Connie Dierking, or Willis Reed and having to face one of those two guys a couple times a week.

Russell should definitely get one in his life time. Kind of lame they don't already have one.

Russel has done a good job of staying in the nba spotlight. Always at the allstar game and doing those interviews with current players. If he didn't do that, I bet most of the fans in Boston don't care. They'd probably be asking for a KG one first...

^^ Excellent post.

They should make many Russell statues and place them all over the country.
