Why did the NBA go from NBC to ABC?

Post#1 » by JordansBulls » Sun Jun 8, 2008 7:40 pm

Why did the NBA go from NBC to ABC?

Was it due to the contract being up and NBC not wanting the NBA any longer? Was it due to the NBA wanting to just go to ABC?

Does anyone know what actually happened?

ABC paid more money than NBC was willing to. Simple as that. NBC left the NFL for the same reason years ago, then came back.

It was announced on June 27, 2007 that the NBA on ABC had been renewed through the 2015-2016 season

At least it seems as if the experiment known as the Pussycat Dolls "RIGHT NOW" song has ended.

They were hot, and sex sells on TV, so it was a good experiment. I hope they do more of that.

They were hot, sure. But annoying as hell. And on e-v-e-r-y telecast after e-v-e-r-y timeout. It was hard to bear.

I remember a year or so before when they did the same thing with a song by that guy from Matchbox 20.

"YOU'RE BETTER THAN THAT!" -- Mark Jackson thinks thats really clever and funny I bet and its his tagline. Man he is horrible....I wish Bill Walton was back.

Since i'm on the topic of this...

"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" -- Reggie Miller. is he with espn or tnt? well doesnt matter because thats his tagline and he loves to say it and kill it. its annoying ahhhh.

The biggest reason was money, of course, but the fact that ABC is a sister network of the ESPNs likely helped as well.

If they could just bring the old NBA on NBC theme song to ABC, I'd be ok with it. That theme song was great.

You answered you own question with a question.

It's all about who Stern take the most cash from. ABC offered more and he took it. Plus Stern like how the whole package will be presented.

i don't know if he knew what he was talking about when he said it, but, charles barkley said that if nbc hadn't spent all that money on the xfl, they would have been able to keep the nba.

but all around, i heard there were bad financial decisions by nbc the years leading up the expiration of their contract with the nba.

A comes before N, and the NBA finally realized that. Therefore ABC wins.
