Pistons Eye Carmelo, Source Says

Post#1 » by SmoothKobra » Sun Jun 8, 2008 6:08 pm

Via Wiretap

The Detroit Pistons could have drafted Carmelo Anthony in the 2003 NBA Draft, instead going with Darko Milicic.

Now they may try to acquire the star forward of the Denver Nuggets via trade, Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post is reporting.

Could Carmelo fit into the Pistons defensive oriented system? Or would his acquisition change the mindset of the team, especially with a new coach coming in? Depending on what they give up for them, could it put them over the ECF hump? I'm sure a Carmelo led team would be able to be more effective in a weaker Eastern conference.

Prince plays what then? Melo can ONLY play the 3. Too slow for SG, not good enough to be a PF

Curious to see how it unravels, both teams have things the other team needs/wants.

Thing is I'd assume Chauncey or even Sheed or a combo of them would be out..

1) Sheed's expiring so that'd help Denver
2) Detroit would look to move Billups to make room for Rodney

But would he fit? It'd require more moves cause losing either of those two above doesn't make the 2 or 3-spot open for him. And would the mindset change? If your franchise player is an offensive oriented player, then yeah, but I think as he gets older he'll start valuing defense more & more

Wow.....

I think they think Maxiell is gonna blow up next season. I think he might.

They need another big who blocks shots though

How about Sheed/Prince for Carmelo/Camby?

Nuggets get a better defensively, AI can be the #1 option with good defensive help around to cover him.

Detroit will have a lateral move in Sheed for Camby and #1 option Carmelo.

I haven't checked the contracts so I don't know if that works......

I like G35's trade, the Pistons need go to offense so they won't stagnate for such long periods of time.

He seems to play about 15 minutes a game at PF in the West, but I am sure you know what you are talking about.

So the Pistons want Melo, that does not mean that the Nuggets are going to drop their pants for them. Wallace is putting up 13 and 7 while bringing back his attitude, Prince is a huge downgrade from Melo, and Billups is starting to regress while being on a long contract, if the Nuggets decide to trade Melo I am sure they would get much better then that deal, or most anything that the Pistons can offer in a straight up deal.

If Dumars pulled off G35's deal he'd be executive of the year for 2009 no question, but no way the Nuggets are dumb enough to pull the trigger on that.

Well it depends on how much people value Melo's value. He may be a much better scorer and a viable #1 option but his defense is lacking. How would he fit with in the Pistons lineup. Tayshaun has been asked to guard Wade, Pierce, Lebron with decent results. Melo can't do that.

Also how badly does Detroit want Sheed. Will his performance in the playoff's blow over or does Dumars really want to move him. I think Sheed is still a key player and can contribute to a championship team.

Melo and Camby while being good players haven't shown any substance to their games. Very good stat players but how much does that result in winning games.....

They won't get rid of Chauncey. They are probably gonna trade Prince and Hamilton to do it. And that would be a good deal for both team IMO.

Its just so funny that they could have drafted this guy and now they wanna trade for him. They could have had him, Billups, Hamilton and Prince and now they will probably have to give up Hamilton and Prince to get him.

If Curry's the coach then Carmelo's going to have to play defense. If curry develops him defensively Melo might actually be worth a damn on D for the first time in his whole career. those are alot of ifs though. I don't know why Detroit would do this.

Rodney Stuckey?

Anyways... I'm not sure how I feel about this. I really don't like him as a player, but I am hoping for a big change, and this would be exactly that. I guess it would depend on what we gave up.

LOL The Pistons **** all on Melo when they won it all , now they want him? If they would of drafted him they would of had 3 (atleast) rings right now. Melo needs to tell Joe D to eat a dick.

So they couldn't get effort on a consistent basis and now they want Melo? Ha.
