I didn't know if anyone else was catching this.
Ron Ron has become a semi-regular on the Carmichael Dave Show.
The show comes on right before I get off work, so I get to listen to most of it going home.
It's definitely given me some more insight into him as a person, and I think anyone that listens to it will realize that Ron's not nearly as nuts as some would like to make him out to be.

Something I can agree with you about.

I haven't listened to it, so I can't comment on it. I will say that I think Ron is every bit as nutty as most think, but I don't think it's really in a destructive way usually--at least not nearly to the degree many think. Now he's more "hilarious soundbite" kind of nutty as opposed to "jumping in the stands" nutty.

I've been listening to this (I tend to listen to the CarmichaelDave show pretty regularly) but Ron is one funny dude.
They have talked about everything, from Celine Deon to the Malace in the Palace, Ron has probably been on 6 or 7 times. I'm surprised he keeps on coming on but each time it has been good.

Ron already slimmed down before last season, and, naturally his defense is going to be effected to a degree, when there are factors he can't really control that have been there (and partly still are).
Regardless, he's still a tremendous defender.

Yeah, when Artest came to Sacramento he weighed around 260! He was still one of the best defenders in the NBA with the weight! But couple of years progressed, Artest slimmed down around 245ish IIRC. IMO he is around 240ish right now. Which is good for him. He is still an overall monster defender. The best in the NBA.

Re: Ron Artest on Carmichael Dave
Well in 06-07, his back and knees were sore and lingered during the whole season (not always there, but there at times as a trend during the season, from what I remember), combined with having more of an offensive load, and an inconsistent, poor to decent defensive team range around him, but ultimately not a respectable team defense around him. The latter of which was there last season, but Ron was in better health (where it didn't effect his play that much), and was lighter.
Collectively in 06-07, I thought he was still very good, though. Last season he was better defensively, and I think the best he could be on this team.
When he first came to the team, despite not playing for close to two months from sitting out, there was just that energy within the team, that made the team what they were then overall (as well as Kenny Thomas', Skinner's, and Bonzi's defense, toughness, and rebounding). Where Ron lead that, and played just like he was known as. With the team's situation on both ends of the court, as well as partly the playoff run, there was a generally better defensive situation for Ron. But unfortunately, that team energy and focus dropped off noticably the next season with various and natural changes (individually of which I explained first).
As goes with anybody, if you have a significant team defense around somebody, they're going to be better overall. And with certain players defensively, their short-comings will be lessened.
This is part of why I regularly have been wanting this team to get better and more consistent defensively, so my favorite player can be even more effective defensively. We haven't been able to do that, though.
