Do The Scrubs Deserve A Ring???

For some reason it always frustrates me when i see the scrubs of any Finals team riding pine and waiting for a ring to come to their way.
I realize that they would be on the court if they had their choice but the reality is that these guys have almost no impact on a series aside from cheerleading and moral support.
Can anyone think of some of the biggest scrubs to get rings in the past?
Even though i love the red rocket, Matt Bonner is definitely a scrub with a ring.

I really think that everyone on the team should get one anyway. They all helped in practice and whenever they got a few minutes on the court. They got the water for the team and helped the coaches. They attended all the film sessions and everything. They just didn't play as much because they coach didn't put them in.

Yes, they deserve a ring for being part of a championship team.

Likewise, Matt Bonner was a part of the Spurs 15-men roster. The ring was well-deserved.

Why? Explain how they are deserving of a ring. The players who actually play in the series should get rings and the bench riders should get a certificate or something. haha

Basketball is a team sport. If your team wins the title and you're on the team, then you deserve a ring.

fans deserve a ring too, for all the cheering, ups and downs they go thru

just think about it, w/o fans, how well would some of these teams play at home?

Everybody in the team deserves the ring. Perhaps they aren't so great to deserve a spot in the starting lineup or barely get gametime at all, but they don't sit around. You see a scrub there only two or three nights a week, sitting on the bench. But outside that, the guy works together with the team and goes through the same things others in the team go through.

Sure there are times when a scrub is so out of place in a team and has such a terrible work ethic that he doesn't deserve a ring, but to be honest, you can't have it as a rule with exceptions like that.

Earl Barron simulated Dirk for the Heat. He's the ultimate scrub. Heck, I remember Barkley referring to the Heat players as "slugs" lol

Maybe you guys can answer me this...

Do past players on the team that year also get rings?

For example, if a guy is added as a 10-day contract and doesn't get renewed, but the team goes on to win the championship. Does he get a ring?

They still deserve a ring for being part of the team. It's not their fault, it's managements, so I don't see how you can point the finger at the lonely bench player that doesn't get playing time.

How do you decide who is a scrub and who's played enough to warrant a ring then? Does your 8th and 9th men contribute enough? Everyone should get one cause some way they helped out.

I realize that there is no way of determining the degree of "scrubness" per player. I raised this topic because it is so painfully obvious sometimes that some of these bench warmers have no business getting a ring.

I think the NHL handles it best. Players appearing in 41 regular-season games or one Stanley Cup Final game for the championship team have their names engraved on the Cup.

IMO, if you want a NBA ring, you have to play half the season or play in one Finals game to qualify. No more signing a player for 10 games in the regular season, benching them in the playoffs and allowing them to ride the coattails of a championship team to get their names in the history books. :nod:
