Would Nets do this trade?

Post#1 » by Knicksman780 » Sun Jun 8, 2008 5:03 pm

I posted this in the NY forum and it got mixed reviews.

NY trades:
Randolph Morris
Mardy Collins
#6 pick (assuming OJ and Bayless are gone)
for
Sean Williams
#21 Pick
2nd round pick

NJ gets the potential of drafting Lopez, Randolph, Gordon and get 2 bench fillers or have the potential to package 6 & 10 to move up...

NY trades down with the hopes that a pg falls (Augustin, Westbrook or Lawson) and get a shot blocking presence that can work in the D'Antoni system.

I actually think I would do that IF (this is a big IF too) the Nets were completely sold on someone who won't be there at 10 and were 100% confident he'd make a bigger impact than S-Will next year.

I also like Randolph Morris too.

I agree, but NJ would still have pick #10 for a guy like Speights, Jordan or Arthur. What this comes down to IMO is if you thinking the upgrade from the wings available at 21 (Douglas-Roberts and Buddinger) compared to the wings that will be available at 6 (Gordon or Gallinari) is worth Sean Williams.

Great point! Only problem is that Speights may move up between the 5th 9th Pick.

I'm not saying it isn't possible, but with Rose, Beasley, Mayo, Bayless, Brook Lopez, Gordon, Gallinari, Randolph and Love, I tend to doubt Speights gets pegged before #10. If he is, I think it's quite likely that a big we don't expect to fall (Lopez? Love?) does instead.

Haha well I can tell you that I agree with you 100% on this one. Right now Speights is my guy, then Arthur, then trade down if they're both gone (one of them most definitely will be there at 10 though unless something dumb happens).

haha you know I've been starting to notice that too. I think you, me, and Josh Boone should start a reality show together and we can argue about him at the dinner table while he sits there silent and crying on the inside.

From what I read, it seems Kiki likes Speights alot and other GMs too. If he provides us the low post presence we need. I am for it, too.
Arthur being my second choice also.

I read that this speights kid is only 215 lbs so i have a hard time believing he can come in and be the low post scorer we need, who has actually watched this kid play ball???

Maybe he'll take Nenad's spot though since he has a tight jumper

Link please. You may be reading the National Enquirer of sports news or something. Every site I him listed between 240-250. YouTube him. He's not a baby. He's got great size and can run the floor well. He's still young and developing, yet already has a pretty solid inside game and his mid range jumper has improved both seasons at UF. A lot of people compare his to Elton Brand and when I've seen him (3 times in person too), I could understand the comparisons. For our team, if we go big at #10 and nobody has fallen to us, Speights gets my nod over Arthur.

I think the Nets would do that in a heartbeat. It gives them the potential to get Love or Gallinari at #6, and then they have #10 to spend on a guy like Speights, Randolph or Arthur.

Speights is big & powerful. Arthur is the one that weighed in at 215. Randolph was only 197.

Unfortunately, I would highly doubt a team that is going into a rebuilding mode is gonna drop from #6 to #21. They would have to be COMPLETELY sold on Williams if that were the case. They would go down to #10 in the case they fell in love with Augustine and knew he was there at #10. There are some solid players around #21 but it starts to become a crap shoot at that point too.

Problem is if the Knicks wanted #10 instead of #21, I'd pass on this. I'd start demanding David Lee if they wanted Williams. Not that the Knicks would every do that and I'm not saying S-Will is as good as Lee, I'm just saying if someone is getting Williams from us in a deal, we're definitely still gonna be the ones coming out on top. Switch to #10 starts to make this a deal killer.

My fault dude, i got Speights weight confused with that Arthur kid.

good to know that Speights is at a proper NBA playing weight. Arthur on the other hand.... :nonono:

I wouldn't do it Randolph Morris is ok but I wouldn't give up Swat for him he's a big part of the future.

Forget Morris. You're not giving up SWAT for him. You're giving up SWAT for #6. Heck, I'll throw in Marcus & drive them both to MSG for free.
