Wallace is not a bad talent evaluator (he did draft Joe Johnson, Mike Conley, Billups, etc). His problem is twofold: he is a TERRIBLE trader and nearly as bad in salary cap management. Talent evaluation is just ONE of many hats that a GM must wear. Wallace might make a great scout, but a GM he is not.

But if you're more interested in saving money than making any effort at approving the team - you shouldn't even be allowed to control or own an NBA team. I bet the Washington Generals have a low payroll too, and are still fun to watch since they play the Globetrotters...

Chris Wallace did NOT do full due diligence on Vin Baker.

Recent reporting shows Memphis' owner doubts Wallace did full due diligence on Gasol's trade value.

When it comes to trades, Wallace is clearly an abomination.

As the source, Wallace says that the Cs wanted the pick to use on two guys, both of whom turns out well.

That's common in stories like this.

Never mentioned are the other three options a team had in mind, all of whom turned out to be utter busts.

Wallace was a hard-working scout under Ainge. It's certainly possible he did much of the legwork on Powe.
