How about we let Oden play atleast 20 games in the NBA before we include him in "whos better?" polls

assuming yao's body continues to break down yr after yr, these two are future of the center position in the west.

agreed..I'm a fan of both these guys, although I'll probably start disliking Bynum next year..good to see some good guys emerging with some hype, and hopefully both live up to it in the future..one of them looks 40 and the other looks 10..

ASSUMING Oden is as advertised, and both recover from injuries (which Oden is)

Oden will be better, and here is why. It has nothing to do with Bynum not being a good center because he is.

Oden is by far the better defender, and it's not even close. Bynum will not be as effective against Oden, and Oden is bigger and stronger than Bynum so Bynum will not be all that effective guarding Oden.

250 was when he was drafted. He has since put on about 30 pounds, a lot of which is muscle.

Either way, this thread has been done to death multiple times. I don't see the purpose for it again. But, I'll take Oden.

Oden got up to 290-something this summer and is actually losing some weight so he stays healthier and puts less pressure on his knees.

Thing is, Oden's going to play around 275-285, but he's ripped. Bynum is still carrying a higher percentage of body fat; he's not fat, I'm not saying that at all, I'm just saying that Oden is much more muscular.

And he's clearly much more athletic.

I think that Oden at full potential is better than Bynum at full potential. Call me crazy but it seems to me like Greg Oden can be a Bill Russell-esque contributor if he can stay healthy. Now, that doesn't mean he's gonna win 11 titles or that he's better than Russell. BUT I do think he has the tools to become a very similar player.

I don't think this is a fair comparison being that Oden has yet to play an official NBA regular season game. Plus both are coming back from a knee-injury. . .so who knows

hawes will be lucky to ever be a top ten center in the west.

gasol, bynum, amare, okur, kaman, chandler, yao, oden, biedrins, jefferson.

If Oden comes anywhere NEAR his potential, it will be him quite easily. But Bynum will be one of the best centers in the NBA if he recovers.

I just love all the people who complain that both are coming off injuries or Oden hasn't played, as if every other thread on the player comparison board is a form of scientific inquiry instead of pure speculation just like this one.

Oh, and Oden. Quite easily. TSherkin nailed it--Oden is far more athletic and more muscular. One thing Tyler didn't hit, however, is that Oden has a good left hand as well as his dominant right, something he had to develop at OSU due to the wrist injury. Between the athleticism and the greater skills, this shouldn't be that hard of a competition for Greg to win.
