Tim Thomas 08/09 role?

Post#1 » by Jujuba69 » Tue Jun 10, 2008 3:00 am

Is Tim Thomas going to get PT with the LAC this season?

You guys have Brand back and the breakout of Al Thorton. When i see the roster i believe Kaman will going to start at C, Brand at PF and AL at SF, right?

Maggette can cover the startig SG spot or SF backup. That leaves Tim Thomas at backup of backup SF and backup PF. Its less PT that before.

Is he going to live well with that? Mike D likes TT or not? Please, tell me, because i dont know much about LAC.

Do you guys see a resonable year to TT?

Thanks.

Hopefully as little as possible...

He's a waste of a roster spot.

He's not that bad. Thomas will be useful this year since he can play both forward spots and will be a useful backup to Al Thornton assuming Maggette is dealt this summer. Thomas will have less pressure on him to score with EB back hopefully and I expect to that to help his percentages. I think Tim will be our first forward off the bench barring any significant roster turnover this summer.

I'd expect Thomas to play around the same role he did in 06/07 as the Clippers 3 point specialist in the front court. Without the nagging injuries he had last year, I'd expect him to bounce back and increase his 3 pt percentage and hit over 100 3's on the season.

I personally hope to see Powell get the majority of the back up minutes at the 4 spot as opposed to Thomas. Thomas will need to be more consistent from 3 point range than he was last season (<31%). He was brought in to help spread the floor and with EB back he should be able to go back to that role. He just needs to hit his shots...

Yes he is. Like MJ said...waste of a roster spot. He didn't hit any of the shots he was supposed to, he missed box-outs...the only thing he was consistent with was being lackadaisical. There is a lot better talent waiting to take his spot...James Singleton woulda been more help than TT. Let's bring J-Sing back!

Don't expect that to happen with Dunleavy still in charge of the Clippers. Singleton deserved to get more minutes but he still couldn't find an NBA team willing to pay him more than he could earn overseas.

Powell is obviously a better rebounder and defender at PF than Thomas, but Thomas will probably get more minutes next year since the Clippers are one of the leagues worst 3 point shooting teams. If they draft someone that can provide the 3 point shooting they lack it could change, but I'd expect them to draft a guard. I'd don't see Thornton shooting a lot of 3's, he may be more like Maggette in how many 3's he attempts.

My favorite Clipper!

Didn't he tear his ACL or something like that?

^ Tore his ACL while in training camp for his Spanish team, but returned to play out the end of the season in February. Word is, he's healthy and still has another year on his contract.

I'm all for that. We never shoulda let him go in the first place. He needed lots more pt. I say we bring him back and he's the backup SF. With Thornton, Singleton and Livingston all in the lineup together, we may actually see a fast break for once.

TT sucks bigtime. I see Powell getting more of the backup PF role next year. TT will only be backup SF, that is, if Maggette leaves. With both Maggette and Thornton, Kaman and Powell, TT will almost never play at all.

I was always a fan of Singleton. I remember in his first 3 games in the league he was averaging a double double. He's long, athletic, he shoots well, and is a pretty good defender. I wish that he would have got more playing time and that he could have stayed with us. I would take Singleton over Thomas.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

What you're forgetting is that Thomas led the Clippers in 3 pointers made last year with 83. Maggette was second with 78, but no one knows if he will return. The Clippers were the 3rd worst 3 point shooting team in the league with 350 total 3's made. The Clipper opponents made 486 3's on the season. Mobley was third on the team with 67 3's made but his career appears to be going into decline.

He won't be buried on the end of the bench unless the Clippers can come up with a replacement who can hit 3's which is unlikely. Powell doesn't have a 3 point shot at all.

I think with Brand back, Thomas will be given a little more room to operate and hopefully, hit his threes. But I agree, I would've rather had Singleton. I'm not sure if he'll ever make it back to the NBA though. I saw him play a few minutes in that Euroleague playoffs (or at least I think it was Euroleague) with Tau Ceramica. He got into early foul trouble, and didn't really play much. Hopefully that torn ACL hasn't affected his athleticism too much.

Hey guys...good to see some CT refugees.

Yeah, I've been registered here for years now but never really posted much because all of my typing went to ClipperTalk. Now if Rock would just pay the hosting bill....I'm still going to keep posting here though.
