OT: Arenas Opts Out

Post#1 » by phoolishly_insane » Tue Jun 10, 2008 5:13 am

Gilbert Arenas lived up to his word and opted out of the final year of his contract, the Wizards said Monday, in a expected move reported by the Associated Press.

Arenas has repeatedly said he would forgo the final year of his six-year, $65M deal so that he could re-sign with the team for an even larger amount.

Sign and trade for Ray Allen in the offseason?

Ray is a better fit with Paul and KG than Arenas. Let him go to LA so he and Kobe can fight over who takes the most shots.

I'm surprised he announced it in the middle of the Finals. He's not usually one that likes attention.

His Opt out clause deadline is 13th June so he has to decide whether he wants to opt out or not.

The Finals will be over on June 12, so he could have waited until the Finals are over.

No, they are right. He could have picked a better time to do this. You telling me he didn't know that he was going to opt out?? Please. Gilbert arenas is an attention whore. This is what A-Rod did during the World Series last year.

I hope he goes to LA, and Kobe and him fight all the time. It would be funny if he went for odom, in some way, and odom went on to be a really good all star. So then, the wiz would have caron and odom, who LA traded, who are both all stars. very unlikely though.

Amen. That was my exact thought process.

IMO, He'd actually get more attention if he did it after the finals. Yes it detracts from the finals a little bit, but by tomorrow everyone will be talking about the Cs going up 3-0.

He must idolize A-Rod...

And for the record, HELL NO to Arenas on the C's.
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

The way he played this year, no one's going to take their attention away from the finals to give to Arenas.

Gil is the biggest ball hog I've ever seen.
He's one hell of a scorer, though.

I'm convinced I could score 15ppg a game if I shot the ball as much as Gil. I'm 5'9" and a stout 195 lbs, and I don't exercise nearly enough.

.

If the deadline was June 13th, when exactly was he supposed to opt-out?

How about after his season was over? It wasn't as if he had anything to ponder. Everyone knew what he was gonna do.

Yep. This is what I was implying in my post. He already knew, so why wait to tell?

Maybe he tried working out an extension before he opted out?
