Worse officiated PO serie

Post#1 » by Ryoga Hibiki » Wed Jun 11, 2008 2:09 pm

Game 6 in 2002 was horrible, but in 2006 the refs were much more consistently bad in the last four games.
Wade ftw.

2002 is the first time I thought the NBA was rigged.
2006 is the only time I was sure it was fixed.

That Lakers/Kings series was a tragedy.

And people assumed that if a player gets a lot of free throws, the refs have fixed or favored the team way too much. It's like in Baseball, if you work out and get buff, you are automatically accused of taking steroids. Same **** with the NBA fans today.

I just posted in another thread, but the Lakers/King series was bad:

That entire series was just an abomination of refereeing, with Game 6 being the most blatant, but the whole thing was just bad. It's so clear the NBA wanted a 7 game series in that super-hot rivalry (20.6 ratings in Game 7 btw). Literally, the refereeing would ping-pong from game to game in the most blatant examples. Game 4 was exactly like you described (replying to a post talking about how the refs let the lakers just maul bibby all half long to come back). Game 5 was hand-delivered to the Kings. Game 6 was the worst officiated 4th quarter EVER.

For the record, I do believe the NBA generally takes a "hands-off" approach to Game 7s, its their sacred cow, and imo how they justify it to themselves, by insisting that hey the better team would win Game 7.

+1

Game 6 of laker/Kings was probably the most obvious fixing in the history of the league. But the entire heat/mav series was suspicious.

Lakers/T-Wolves, I think 2003, deserves an honorable mention

Other:

1988 Finals game 6: One of the worst calls EVER to help the Lakers to avoid losing to the upstart Pistons. Phantom foul call - And granddaddy to them all. I would bet the house it was bought and sold.

^ I agree with that. I've often said, there are three times where I am absolutely convinced that the NBA decided who they want to win and executed it.

Game 3 of the 06 NBA Finals, Game 6 of the lakers/kings (though i've since come around to the thought that the league influenced other games in that series to force a game 7), and the 88 Finals Game 6.
