HOUSTON -- Rockets center Yao Ming said he will donate $2 million and create a foundation to rebuild Chinese schools devastated by last month's earthquake in his home country.

Yao announced Tuesday the creation of the Yao Ming Foundation, which will begin with his donation.

Yao has really dont a great job with trying to help the victims of that earthquake and it's been under the radar for the most part.

JVG was talking about during a game saying he really, genuinely cares for his people, and it shows by how much he's helping them.
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

I was thinking something along this line as well. He must have really felt pressured to do something huge by him being such an icon over there. I'm sure the guy has a heart and feels for the victims but wow...2 million just makes me wonder.

Yeah my suspicions were right. I didn't know about this story at first.

People on the internet were calling him a cheapskate for his initial donation... nothing to do with the government..

Yea, this shouldn't just be a national thing, but an international one.

LOL.. other nba players gave a lot when Hurricane Katrina and Tsunami happend.. this Yao cheap dude is very stingy.. he has no heart... two million for an NBA player to give for a country that has been suffering is sad. Bosh gave 1 million right after he signed an extension.. Other players have given back a lot more when disasters happend.. Even Charlie has given to the community a much needed help with that hair loss!!

Yao is from China and he has to do a lot more... should try to invite nba players and inform all nba players to give some money.. instead of fishing.. he needs to have awareness amongst other players. This dude has no heart!!

This will be another reason why i hate Houston rockets!!!

Yao, $2 milliom, Really???

Call me crazy, but doesnt the chinese government own Yao, and consequently all his earnings. If I was him I would have defected a long time ago. Just goes to show you how brainwashed the chinese really are.

Yes, you are crazy. Yao "only" gave half his rookie salary to the chinese governemnt(actually not even the chinese government. I believe those money went to his old basketball team but i could be wrong). All the endorsement money that he gets along with his 70 million extension, he gets to keep for himself.
