Min / NJN / LAC

Not that I am advocating trading the #3 Pick, but if MN were to do so I would really only be interested in a young center or 2 mid to late lotto picks this year as a basis. Here is another deal based on this, primarily to be considered if the FO doesn't wish to keep Mayo or think he is a good fit or whatever.

Trade ID #4648846
Every trade made by fans is allocated a unique Trade ID which you can share with friends and fellow basketball fans to allow them to see your trade scenario.

Minnesota Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: -5.5 ppg, +3.4 rpg, and +0.4 apg.

Incoming Players
Cuttino Mobley (2yrs)
6-4 SG from Rhode Island
12.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.6 apg in 35.1 minutes
Brevin Knight (exp)
5-10 PG from Stanford
4.6 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 4.4 apg in 22.6 minutes
Keith Van Horn (exp?)
6-10 PF from Utah
No games yet played in 2007/08
Josh Boone (2yrs)
6-10 PF from Connecticut
8.2 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 0.8 apg in 25.3 minutes
2008 #7 Pick
2008 #10 Pick
2008 #21 Pick
2009 MN Future First returned

Outgoing Players
Antoine Walker (exp)
6-9 PF from Kentucky
8.0 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.0 apg in 19.4 minutes
Marko Jaric (3yrs)
6-7 SG from Serbia-Montenegro (Foreign)
8.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 4.2 apg in 29.3 minutes
Rashad McCants (1yr)
6-4 SG from North Carolina
14.8 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.2 apg in 26.9 minutes
2008 #3 Pick
2008 #31 Pick

Why for MN: They are trading the #3 to pick up multiple picks in the lottory and their pick returned. They lose out on Walker's bigger expiring but still pick up 2 smaller expirings one of which can mentor at PG. McCants is gone, but they pick up a young center in Boone. Jaric is exchanged for Mobley in a yrs reduction on contracts and plays SG where both McCants's and Jaric's minutes need to be abosorbed some. They also ppick up the #21 while giving up the #31.

The lineup is harder to predict with the multiple picks but
1 Foye / Knight / Telfair?
2 Mobley / Brewer
3 Gomes / #7?
4 Jefferson / #10? / Smith?
5 Boone / #21? / #34 or FA?

L.A. Clippers Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: -7.0 ppg, -4.3 rpg, and +1.0 apg.
Incoming Players
Marko Jaric (3rys)
6-7 SG from Serbia-Montenegro (Foreign)
8.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 4.2 apg in 29.3 minutes
Vince Carter (4yrs)
6-6 SG / SF from North Carolina
21.3 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 5.1 apg in 38.9 minutes
Marcus Williams (2yrs)
6-3 PG from Connecticut
5.9 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.6 apg in 16.1 minutes
2008 #31 Pick
2008 #40 Pick

Outgoing Players
Cuttino Mobley (2yrs)
6-4 SG from Rhode Island
12.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.6 apg in 35.1 minutes
Tim Thomas (2yrs)
6-10 SF / PF from Villanova
12.4 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.7 apg in 30.8 minutes
Al Thornton (3yrs)
6-8 SF / PF from Florida State
12.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.2 apg in 27.3 minutes
Brevin Knight (exp)
5-10 PG from Stanford
4.6 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 4.4 apg in 22.6 minutes
2008 #7 Pick
2009 MN Future First returned

Why for LAC: They have been looking for back court help and they found it. Carter is older and has a longer contract, but is the best player in the trade without question. They use T. Thomas and Mobley primarily to take in Carter's contract. Both players are serviceable, but won't have the impact of Carter. Obviously Carter should have more value than those two, so LAC adds to the trade Thornton (high upside and young, Clips hate this) and Knight (older and expiring) for their young PG of the future in M. Williams and three position playing Jaric. They also grab two early 2nd rounders to help with their depleted depth (#31 and #40) to go with their early 2nd rounder (#35)

1 Livingston/M. Williams/Jaric
2 Carter / Jaric / #35?
3 Maggette / Carter / #40?
4 Brand / Powell
5 Kaman / #31?

A solid lineup, though possibly lacking shooting and possible redundancy with Maggette and Carter. Maggette may still be moved for more back court and Carter can shift to the SF.

New Jersey Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: +12.5 ppg, +0.9 rpg, and -1.4 apg.

Incoming Players
Antoine Walker (exp)
6-9 PF from Kentucky
8.0 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.0 apg in 19.4 minutes
Rashad McCants (1yr)
6-4 SG from North Carolina
14.8 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.2 apg in 26.9 minutes
Tim Thomas (2yrs)
6-10 SF / PF from Villanova
12.4 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.7 apg in 30.8 minutes
Al Thornton (3yrs)
6-8 SF / PF from Florida State
12.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.2 apg in 27.3 minutes
2008 #3 Pick

Outgoing Players
Vince Carter (4yrs)
6-6 SG / SF from North Carolina
21.3 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 5.1 apg in 38.9 minutes
Keith Van Horn (exp)
6-10 PF from Utah
No games yet played in 2007/08
Marcus Williams (2yrs)
6-3 PG from Connecticut
5.9 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.6 apg in 16.1 minutes
Josh Boone (2yrs)
6-10 PF from Connecticut
8.2 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 0.8 apg in 25.3 minutes
2008 #10 Pick
2008 #21 Pick
2008 # 40 Pick

Why for NJN: The Nets go into more rebuild mode than retool and pick up some younger players with some proven NBA minutes. They lose Carter, the best player in the trade at this point but pick up the #3 pick in the draft (most likely Mayo) and Walker's huge expiring for the 4 yr contract. They also pick up a young SG in McCants and a PF/SF in Thornton. Both players have a bit of upside and fit in with a younger core they have established. The cost is one of their young PGs (M. Williams), one of their young centers (Boone), Van Horn's expiring contract, and the three picks #10, #21, and #40. T. Thomas is in there for salary and used as a back up at the 4 and 3.

1 D Harris / Mayo
2 Mayo / McCants
3 Jefferson / Thornton / Tim Thomas
4 Thornton / Tim Thomas
5 Krstic / S. Williams

Tell me what you think. Financially it is better for MN than the last deal I put together. Clippers may be giving up too much here and would probably need to deal Maggette. NJ get too much? It is hard to value Carter. If you have tweaks to it, please feel free to share.

3 way trades on draft day are almost impossible.

The idea of a 3 way where we get 2 lotto picks has been a popular trend, and might work out. But when you add all these players it gets tough. Fan bases and team management fall in love with their own prospects and are usually unwilling to deal them for other prospects.

In a nutshell---too complicated to work.

You know, I'd actually rather have Sean Williams over Boone.

Substitute Williams for Boone and you're got Gunny's thumbs up of approval.
