Concerns Surrounding This Team
There are some concerns popping up for us in the Finals.
Here are some of my concers:
1.Injuries - You can tell there is still something wrong Pierce. If Pierce was healthy, we would be gaurding Kobe at times. Perkins seems ok. But Rondo is now hurt and said that he is about 50%.
2. KG - He guy is disappearing. Since the 1st half of game one, he is shooting 14-49 from the field, that's 35.8% He offensive game now resembles Brad Lohuas' game. If KG played a good game in game 3, despite Pierce's horribble night, we would be up 3-0 right now. We let a great opportunity slip away.
3. Doc Rivers- I've said that many times that we will never win a championship with him as head coach. I hope I'm wrong.
Doc is a very likeable guy and a very good motivator, but he sucks at the X's and 0's and adjustments during games. He did a horrible job in the 4th quarter of game 2 by going small ball. He almost cost of the game.
In game 3, Doc **** up again. He went away from our hottest guy in Ray Allen. There is no excuse for Ray to have taken only 13 shots in the game after how well he was playing. Doc stopped calling Ray's number and Ray called him on it. Great job of going to Pierce and KG instead, who combined for 8-35 shooting.
And can anyone explain why Powe only played 5 minutes in game 3 after playing a great game in game 2?
So with these concerns, we face an up hill battle. If we don't win atleast one of the next two, we have a very small chance of winning the title.

The Rondo injury is the only one that concerns me. I think Pierce and Perk are fine. Let's see how he feels tomorrow. The PG poition becomes key.

I wouldn't say KG dissapeared. His game shouldn't be judged ONLY on scoring. He plays amazing defense night in and night out. He rebounds. He spreads the floor and sets picks. Yes, he should post up more and definitely needs to step up his post game when jumpers are not falling but it's infair to say he's dissapeared and please, no Lohaus comparisons.

I think you're wrong. We'll win this series and Doc will have his ring. The players rushed a lot of shots in game 3 and Rondo's injury played a big part in our stagnant offense.
Look, we're a playing a tough team. This series is going to go at least 6 games. I always thought we'd take 1 game in LA then come back home and finish the job. This game was winnable despite some poor shooting and decision making. I think we'll be fine.

they certainley are all legitamite points
the problem is, with kobe/fisher whoever is guarding rondo sagging off so far Kg is doubled almost everytime on the catch, this forces him to a shoot a tough turnaround fadeaway or get out of the paint and go to the 18 foot range, neither of which are a high percentage shots, hell even powe was doubled by the sag guy last night
so with the man playing off, it is not allwoing us to get established in the post, and its not allowing any dribble penetration
couple soultions i can come up with are, play house more to keep the defense honest, celtics 15-whatevr run last night coincided with house coming in for the injured Rondo. Rondo just simply has to knock down jumpers with consistency, this will also keep the lakers from playing off him that far. or put out a lineup like JVG suggested last night with ray, paul, and posey, kg, prk
also, our defensive rotations were poor and slow last night, Kobe got into the paint more last night than he did in the previous 4 games we played this year, that second tier that has been highlighted that prevents Kobe from getting easy looks was just not there last night. slow rotations also led to the key pau gasol offensive boards and put backs in the 4th quarter the the celtics just couldn't recover from
the rotations i assume will fix themselves though, they havent been an issue for any extended period of time this season
the other things will be up to Doc to adjust to
we will win a game in L.A when we establish a presence in the paint, (post offense, driving to the basket and keeping LA off the boards) when the help defense doesnt allow kobe to get easy looks, or to the line, and when the big three show up again
i have a good feeling we win win a game in L.A, hopefully the next one

KG is hungry in the post...FEED THE MAN!!! And he will eat Pau "Tissue Paper" Gasol and Lamar "Sweet Doobage" Odom every time.
You mean in game 1? Because he really hasn't posted up much at all since then. Difficult to dump the ball to him in the post when he continues to camp out at the 3 pt line.

He did for a short stretch last night in the 2nd half and it was nice...then he got away from it...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

jumping to conclusions? it's stating facts
pierce perk and rondo are all injured, to what extent this effects the team we don't know...so that is a concern
KG is shooting poorly the numbers back it up and hasnt been able to establish himself in the post...so that is a concern
and doc rivers made a couple bad choices last night in the 4th quarter...so that is a concern
OP is bashing anyone or saying anything outlandish, its merely facts
i myself am not too worried or jumping off bridges by anymeans a, but i do share the same concerns

So the injuries to Pierce, Perkins, and Rondo do not concern you? While no Laker player is hurt. Or that KG is in a shooting funk and still refuses to go to the hole?
We could easily be down 1-2. All I'm saying that if when don't win a game in L.A., are chances of winning a title are small. And if KG doesn't
turn it after soon, we won't have much of a chance. I don't think many people will disagree with that.
You talk about jumping to conclusions, there were people here talking about a sweep after he had a 20 plus point lead in game 2. Some people started saying that the Cavs and Pistons were a better team that the Lakers. Just go to the game 2 thread.

count me as one of them folks saying Detroit is better than LA. and the KG thing is nothing new, why you stressin it now?? the injuries are obviously an issue, but nothing that is a legitimate excuse for us not winning the championship. rolled ankles, sprains, championship teams overcome this type of adversity.

KG shooting 35% from the field in the last 2 and a half games is something new.
As far as the injuries, I disagree. Championship teams have to be good and lucky at the same time. Right now, the Lakers are lucky without any injuries since the finals started. 60% of our starting 5 is playing hurt.
Go back to the last time we made it to the finals. That was 1987. We were a championship team that lost. Why? Because Kevin McHale was playing with a fractured bone in his foot and wasn't the same player.

You raise really good points r2g. I share your concerns, but I think you're overlooking the great team defense that this Celtics team plays. KG might have another off-night, but he does play defense (other than that brainfart against Vujacic towards the end of game 3) and so do the other guys. The defense can bail the team out if they're having a poor shooting night.
That said, I think you're much more correct regarding Kevin Garnett than Doc. The move to take Ray out was curious, but I still think that the onus in game 3 is on the players. Garnett absolutely needs to be more assertive on the offensive end. On that, I share the same concern as you. Even three more buckets from him would've been the difference.
