There won't be a QO for Monta... he'll get paid and get paid here. If he wasn't, I'm sure the Baron negotiations would have been much less 'hurtful'..
For Biedrins though? Who knows. The QO severely limits his trade value as well, so for people thinking on that note - don't. Bird rights get lost in the shuffle of trading QO players. With the talk that Nelson's coming back, and Biedrins' role in that system, its not nearly as impossible as the koolaiders will make you think...
Monta, meanwhile, is in prime position to negotiate, thanks to Nellie... he was the teams #1 option down the stretch, and proved he could run the point when given the chance. But because he was not given hardly any extended time at the point, there is still very little to base it on. Based on the way the NBA FA scenarios play out, Tay's agent can easily say "Monta proved he can play PG, and thus, will be payed like a good, young, potential franchise cornerstone".
Here's some recent extensions of young PGs:
Jameer Nelson (5-30)
Kirk Hinrich (5-48)
Mo Williams (6-52)
Devin Harris (5-43)
Luke Ridnour (5-33)
TJ Ford (4-34)
(used Sham as a reference)
Monta's value clearly overshadows all of those mentioned... he can easily clear the 10m on average bar.

But what are the offers Monta would get. The teams with major cap room are Philly, Charlotte, and Memphis. Philly made the playoffs with Miller, Charlotte has Felton and Memphis has Conley. This is also a year where some quality pgs in Rose, Bayless, DAgustin are in the draft. Hinrich, Iverson and Marbury also on the market.
Also you can look at the Larry Coon FAQ line 37 about the Gilbert Arenas Rule.

Not saying that they would, but Philly could make an offer for either Monta or Biedrins. If they honestly felt that Monta could handle the PG spot, they could sign him as their future PG, since Miller is on his last year of his deal. They could either trade Miller (who would have dozens of takers with his stellar year and expiring contract status) - or just play Monta at SG and send Willie Green to the bench where he belongs.
Philly could also make a play for Biedrins if they thought he could hold down the PF spot next to Dalembert for sort of twin towers effect.

How many teams CAN offer a max contract? How many UFA's will be available? Hardly anyone can get a clear $9 mill under cap,and some of those have to renounce their own guys to do it. That's an unacceptable risk with an RFA. Each can get an offer as high as $7-8 mill, but with the Warriors thinking $9 mill and up,a $7 mill bid won't even be submitted since that ends negotiations and sets the price low.
CENSORED... No comment.

PS on the lux tax, I agree the Warriors should not hesitate to go into it if it means improving the roster, and anyway it would likely be for only one year. However going over by $2 mil isn't as painless (for a multi-millionaire) as it sounds... say for instance 'Buike is re-signed at $2 mil per. That's really $4 mil when you pay the dollar for dollar tax. Plus when you're in the tax you don't share in the re-distribution of taxes to the non-taxed teams, which might be another $2-3 mil. So really what 'Buike is costing you in this case is $6-7 mil.
It's not my money but it doesn't sound as appealing when you look at it like that!
Nope, not according to today's wiretap. The Griz might make a play for him in the neighborhood of 10 mil per.

re. matching "max" contracts - I did the math once and am not inclined to do so again, but if anyone else is up for it... it is a hell of a lot of money. If anyone laid out how much max contracts would be for these two, both over the life of the deals and per year towards the end, I think most people would say hell no, we're not matching any max deals.
Max contracts should be reserved for the best of the best... Kobe, KG, LeBron. Anybody who is not a bonafide superstar with years to play shouldn't be getting max dollars.

how disappointing that would be, to watch another team grossly overpay for one of our two youngsters... I still believe if we lose one of them, it's because a team front loads a deal to Monta and then after thats matched, they offer a similar deal to Biedrens.

thanks for the sig Boogie!
