He did step up, he just didn't sink his shots. The guy was what, 5-21? It showed that he wanted the ball and was getting it, he just didn't make the jumpers he normally makes. Like it or not, he's not going to suddenly become Dwight Howard and live in the paint. 3/4 of his shots will be jumpers, and the other 25% will end up being dunks or 2nd chance points in the paint. That's just the reality.
I, you, and everyone else wants him down there, but the offense is built on his jumper drawing guys from the basket, so that Pierce can get to the basket, and so Perkins can clear space for offensive rebounds. If he is hitting his jumper like he normally does, it really makes it hard for opponents to stop us. If he isn't, we can get in trouble because jumpers that aren't falling are really bad possessions IMO.
With two straight subpar shooting games, I expect that KG will have been in the gym shooting for hours taking shots. While he might not go 10-15, I can bet you that he (and Pierce) will shoot far better than Tuesday. Maybe Ray Allen doesn't shoot 5-7 from three point land, but if PP and Garnett shoot like they normally do, they'll more than make up for the slight drop in production from RA.
What scares me the most is that Rajon Rondo being out will kill our transition game. Allen and Pierce get a ton of baskets by taking advantage of the defense before it's set up. However, if Rondo is replaced by House and Tony Allen, they just lack the pure speed and vision to get the ball up quickly and pressure the ball.
I, for one, believe Rondo will be out there. He might not be 100%, but Rondo at 85% is still faster than House. Maybe House gets an extra 6-10 minutes, but for the most part I still think Rajon will be out there. If he was playing in the 4th quarter on Tuesday, he can gut it out after two nights of rest.
