What if Trevor Ariza opts out?

what do the lakers do if ariza opts out? he's due 3.1 next yr if he exercises his player option but what if he decides to walk away? can the lakers afford to commit long term to him knowing that sasha is due a new contract, odom will move down to take some minutes at sf, and walton/vlad's mle level long term deals?

are the lakers going to be trevor's ideal situation knowing that they'll have to slow down the tempo with gasol/bynum? doesn't seem like his offensive skill set would go with the lakers direction unless he dramatically improves his jumpshot.

he was injured, so the question trevor is wondering is if another team will pay him what he could get from us
i'm guessing not, especially how little he is playing in the playoffs

he's only making 3.1 next yr, it shouldn't be that hard to get a competitive salary from someone else. even he takes a pay cut, he may better off on a less traditional offense that will help him show off his skills for a payday next off season. even if he doesn't opt out, whats his future like with the lakers anyway? sasha, walton, radman aren't going anywhere any time soon. odom, or his replacement via trade, is going to be making significant money too. would it be a stretch to say that the only way the lakers can afford to keep ariza is to simply let odom walk?

Yeah playing for Los Angeles gets you a lot of attention around the league and I wouldn't be surprised if Phoenix throw the MLE at either him or Turiaf. Both could be really good in a running offense alongside Nash.

All the more reason to move Lamar while he's hot for Teyshawn Prince

. Vlad Rad has gotta to have some takers out there as well, especially on a lesser team he could do great with no restraints or a more uptempo team like GS,PHX, etc.

If Luck Walton wasn't BWalt's son, would he have been signed with an infinity and beyond contract? Would anyone want Walton at his current contract; I would have to say absolutely not.

Vujacic has earned himself a nice little raise, but I'll be completely shocked if Turiaf gets anywhere close to the full MLE. His stock has plummeted during the playoffs. We've got virtually no muscle inside, and he still can't make much of a dent in the rotation. Anything more than a million or two would be grossly overpaying.

And speaking of Ariza, he's be absolutely insane to opt out of his contract. What exactly has he done to raise his profile and earn a raise? Frankly, I'm still trying to figure out why exactly so many Laker fans are enamored with him.

If and when his contract does come up, barring some sort of breakout next year I don't see any way the Lakers can commit anything but a minimum deal. We already have too much dead money locked up in Walton and Radmanoscrewup, and at the same position no less.

the market is absolutely dead this year... if Varajeo or Darko can bring in at least the MLE, Turiaf will get close to it IMO... that's why I feel we just let him go... we could easily replace him with a Kurt Thomas type...

Vujacic is also going to get the full MLE like Kapono/Radmanovic, but he's worth it IMO...

Go look at Ronny's playoff numbers and tell me, if you're a team executive, you'd give him $5 million per year.
