Okay genius. Lets look at the facts

1) Mayo was told to take on the scoring load as a freshman.

2) Mayo shut down Rose & Bayless

3) Mayo played out of position and still was productive.

4) Mayo is one of the purest shooters in the draft

5) Mayo is one of the most athletic players in the draft

6) Mayo is one of the best perimeter defenders in the draft

7) As the season went on he played alot better, and remember this was in a college system. Once he plays in the free flowing system that is the NBA he can unleash his full potential.

Mayo relies on his shot way too much which is overrated. He rarely attacks the rim consistently. He has choked in almost every big game he played in last year. Especially when he got shut down by Westbrook from UCLA. He's quick laterally but lacks effort on defense. I see him getting easily abused by the pros. At his very best, I see him as being Corey Magette. Which is not bad. But not elite status that people are claiming him to be.

He has problems finishing in traffic but that aspect of his game will most likely get better

As a USC student, imho OJ Mayo is easily better than Nick Young

However I do think Durant may have a better career than Mayo

Some good points but look at USCs team they had absolutely nobody to stretch the floor so team basically packed it in or played some variation of a box-and-1 on him. Not because he deserved that kind of defense but more because he was the only person that could shoot and score.

Westbrook could hound Mayo b/c a) USC couldn't stretch the floor b) UCLAs team defense is the best in the nation. They decided that they were going to key in only on Mayo and it worked.

You are acting like OJ mayo had a great supporting cast. USC had raw talented players who had IQs of Chia-pets.

As for OJ Mayo not being a good defender. I don't know what OJ Mayo you were watching. When you shut down Rose and Bayless that is pretty impressive. He fights thru screen and he can stay infront of almost anyone. You are the only one in the world who thinks this guy cant defend.

Corey Maggette? That makes no sense. They aren't even the same type of player. What because Maggette plays in LA? Come on dude.

Mayo got locked up by Kyle Weaver a guy who is slotted to go in the second round.

Kevin Durant is easily in position to take over as the next scoring machine.

I see Mayo as a more athletic Brandon Roy.(Smaller Penny?) I think if he is dedicated to improving he has the potential to be very-very good at the NBA level. Also, it depends on what team drafts him. I think MN with a shooter (foye/shad) and an elite young post player (Jefferson) would be an enviroment where Mayo would thrive.

I'm not sure how much more athletic he is then Brandon Roy. Go look at their respective Pre Draft measurements. The numbers are almost identical, except Roy is taller.

Michael Beasley.

Yeah, I know he's not a SG, but I think in his prime he will be a revolutionary style of SF that the NBA has never seen. At 6-8 and with the athleticism of a SG, he's a freak of nature. He matched Kevin Durant's ridiculous season at Tejas (another close pick of mine, but I think he will fall in love with the outside shot too much and become a better Rashard Lewis).

Durant:
25.8 PPG, 11.1 RPG, 1.3 APG, 2.8 TO/G, 1.9 SPG, 1.9 BPG

Beasley:
26.2 PPG, 12.4 RPG, 1.2 APG, 2.9 TO/G, 1.3 SPG, 1.6 BPG

The one thing I fear with Beasley though is his fire. A lot of people have questioned it and I'd not be surprised if he became the next Derrick Coleman. If he utilizes his absurd upside though, the sky is the limit. And unlike the beanpole Durant, this kid is fully ready for the rigors of the SF/PF spot in the NBA, making him an even more deadly matchup for opponents.

Think Lamar Odom without the bad jumpshooting and wildly inconsistent performances. A guy capable of putting up 30 and 15 at the SF/PF spot in his prime.
