I love Walter Ray, but unless the clencher is different I think you have to give it to the Captain.

But Ray is making it close. If Ray leads them to another victory Sunday he could get it.
While Pierce did do a heck of a job on Kobe, I think it's also worth noting that Ray held Kobe field goal-less in the 1st half himself.

Like others have said, I think it comes down to who has a better clinching game (if it happens) between Ray and Pierce.

Although, Ray Allen carried the team offensively in game three and made significant contributions in other areas besides scoring in winning game four. In my opinion, Pierce for his overall efforts, offensively and defensively guarding Bryant, in three out of four of these games is my choice for the series' most valuable player. Also, Garnett has been the most consistent player statistically. So, he deserves a nod as well.

Ray has been phenomenal in this series! Its unbelievable considering his struggles in prior series. Pierce will most likely get it and deservedly so (minus game 3) but Ray has be great!!!

Pierce has had the best individual games, but game 3 was a complete mess for him. Ray's been more consistently good. It'll probably depend on the remainder of the games.

All I can say is, it's wonderful we're talking about Ray as a potential Finals MVP, after his problems earlier in the playoffs.

Kudos to him for putting it together at the right time.

Ray might be the finals MVP - but PP is the playoffs MVP. That unfair as it may be could push the tide over to Paul. It might be nice if Ray wins it because PP will get much love anyway as a now Celtic great (assuming they win it all).

I LOVE Ray Allen, but Pierce's defense on Kobe might be overlooked, but legendary in my eyes. I haven't seen anyone guard Kobe better than Paul Pierce has when he's been called upon to do so.

This is Ray's thread though, and Ray deserves MUCH credit for his play so far...his layup on Sascha was damn-classic.... Sascha really thought he was applying pressure and Ray just KNEW he could get by him at any time. Sacha's teammates apparently thought he had him too... Ray outsmarted everyone and showed why just a year ago he was a 26ppg scorer... I'll finish the way I started the post... I LOVE Ray Allen...

I think Ray is the most important player on the team. He keeps the Celts alive. Without him they would be long gone because KG and Pierce doesn't show up most of the time, but Ray does.

Uhh..Kobe started scoring a lot more when PP was put on him compared to when Ray was guarding him.

A "lot" more? He shot the ball more, but he also missed "a lot" more too.

BTW, the reverse layup was Jordan esque. You don't realize just how difficult it was until you see it in slo-mo. Ridiculous play (and wasn't it after he pulled down an offensive rebound?.

I definitly go with paul, in the 3 wins he has outperformed ray, Game 4 is the only win you can even argue ray had a better game and its close, Pierce scored 20 and put up 7 assits and took Kobe out of the post, Ray did a great job preventing Kobe from scoring but our having to double on him when he posted ray up lead to lots of other guys on the lakers scoring, Pierce only got help when he was picked except for the last 2 minutes and he was VERY effective against him including that key block which lead to Ray's fast break becuase not only did he block the shot he got it and made a good pass.

Paul Pierce is the finals MVP and its not close. Props to ray for a great night tonight, but if yoiu think about the wins we had as a whole, Pierce has been more valuable then ray.
