Ray Allen vs Paul Pierce for Finals MVP could cost us game 5

Post#1 » by sarcasma » Fri Jun 13, 2008 6:58 am

Please Ray and Paul, nobody cares who wins Finals MVP, just win the title. You could see alot of one on one involving the 2 trying to get their stats up in the next game. Hopefully it doesnt come to that. I remember earlier in the year when Perk was trying to get 20 rebounds and James Posey grabbed one from him, they argued and halfway up the court KG turned and yelled at both of them...great moment. Its very close for Finals MVP, if you look at the numbers and not the Paul Pierce hype machine. If one of the 2 goes off next game for 30, they probably win the MVP assuming they win the game. Pierce is always at the press conferance and in the media cause he plays in LA, but Ray has been solid every game. It shouldnt come down to that though as RAY has sacrificed the most this year. He did get robbed of the MVP at the All Star game though.

The guys are pro's and not ego maniacs like some guy who shall go unnamed. They no what is at stake and wont let personal glory get in the way of the big picture.

You base this concern on what prior behavior of theirs?

Its Pierce all the way, in the wins he has been by far the most dominent player, Ray was not a factor in the game one win at all, in game 2 both were but paul clearly more so, in game 4 Ray may have been slightly more important but paul was right there. When in doubt go with the captain who has been with the team for 10 years...the MVP is Paul Pierce

HOLY JESUS. Yeah, because the entire season the three of them have set their egos aside for the goal of a CHAMPIONSHIP. Now that that CHAMPIONSHIP is one win away, they're all of a sudden going to have huge egos, all for friggin' Finals MVP. Great contribution. Really ...

That's how I see it right now. They're pretty much even, but you've got to throw in the long time service award factor.

They're both playing better than I expected in the finals. Pierce is more Zen Master than the Zen Master. Who would have expected that, given some of the ways that he has responded to pressure in the past? I mean, he wanted to win that game so badly last night that his eyeballs were practically popping out of his head, but he kept himself cool, calm, collected, and completely focused on leading the team. And he was our leader in that second half. Just amazing. He was a rock out there.

And Ray, who the hell would have expected this after the way he was bricking it earlier in the playoffs? I mean, he looked completely defeated a couple of weeks ago, shoulders sagging, the whole bit. And let's be honest, we all had some version of "Well, I guess he's not as good as we thought he was" running through our minds. He definitely is in the MVP conversation, and could steal it with a big Game 5. Un-friggin-believable. Just completely clutch.

We really do have a Big Three, and not a Big Two, or Big Two and a Half.

I dont think pierce or allen are even goin to be thinking about finals mvp during the game..i mean would you? Theyre trying to win the game and theyre goin to take good shots, not just chuck up shots to get more points. I do think though that ray allen will defer to pierce, but not to the point where he passes up open shots. allen will stay aggressive.

It can be Eddie House or Tony Allen or Scal. I don't think they care. They smell blood in the water and want the ring. FYI the league will give it to pierce.

PP could basically lay an egg in game 5 & if we win, he'd more than likely still get it seeing how he's been in boston for 10+ years. there's no way Ray gets it seeing how poorly he played in the first two rounds. & KG hasnt really done anything, other than game 1. posey has been huge, but it is easily gonna be paul's mvp to lose, IF we win the series. jus liike how we came back in this game, LA can jus as easily come back in the series

t is voted on by the media. The length of service to the team doesn't matter. Neither do the early rounds of the playoffs.

And, I can pretty much guarantee, neither does the award to either Paul or Ray. If KG goes nuts in Game 5 and drops 40, they'll both be getting him the ball.

Ray took three shots in the second half - all lay-ups. He passed up several open looks to get other guys open looks. Pierce sacrificed some offense to take on the challenge of guarding Kobe the entire second half. Their team play has been exemplary - no reason to expect that to change.

I really think the team only cares about the ring and wont jeopardize the series for the MVP award.

Garnett, Allen and Pierce all feel that the ring is what they are missing to complete their Hall of Fame resumes, not the Finals MVP.

Hopefully, they can fight over the finals MVP next year.

Both of them have been in the league for at least 10 years trying to get a ring.

That's the #1 priority. Neither cares about being Finals MVP.

Lets not talk about mvp until the celtics actually win the championship.
