Mavericks Looking To Trade For A Pick
Jun 12, 2008 4:10 PM EST

The Mavericks don't have a first round pick in this month's draft but they are looking to acquire one, according to The Dallas Morning News.

"I don't think there's any doubt that we'll try," new coach Rick Carlisle said. "But first-round picks this time of year, everybody gets enamored with them. Unless they have multiples, they're not that interested in giving them up. But you know Mark [Cuban] is going to be aggressive."

Dallas is also looking to retain free agent Devean George.

"I like him as a player," Carlisle said. Re-signing George "is certainly something we're going to aggressively explore. He can do some things that we need."

If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

Well, George is a great tool for sign-and-trading with his Early Bird Rights and all that but it looks like Carlisle wants him on the team.

Just Buy the Pick

Post#4 » by Maverick Junkie » Fri Jun 13, 2008 2:45 pm

I bet we are just open to buying a pick. I think it cost 3 or 4 Million to buy a pick. We have to hope one team is willing to give one up.

Buying a pick seems most likely to me too. Hopefully Detroit or Boston are selling.

boston don't have a pick. hope that Sarver gets real cheap.

Maybe we can buy Seattle's #24 too. They got 2 1sts and you just know that they are a money hungry franchise. Bennett is scum.

I know that the Suns routinely sell thier picks for $3,000,000. We may be able to pull a deal with Potrland. I saw that they are interrested in moving the 13th pick for an all star small forward. They are said to be shopping Jared Jack, Martell Webster, Travis Outlaw and Channing Frye. I say trade Josh for Jared Jack, Travis outlaw and the 13 pick. I would Use that on a big like Jordan, Lopez or Hibbert. We can then trade a combo of players for Maggette or Gerald Wallace. We could have a scenario like this:

Trade 2
Dallas Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: +12.9 ppg, +7.9 rpg, and +4.1 apg.
Incoming Players
Corey Maggette
Tim Thomas
Brevin Knight

Outgoing Players
Jason Terry
Jerry Stackhouse

Trade 2
Dallas Trade Breakdown

Travis Outlaw
Martell Webster
Jarrett Jack
#13 Pick

Outgoing Players
Josh Howard
Eddie Jones
Cash considerations

Our lineup:
Kidd/Jack/Knight
Maggette/Webster/Sebietus
Outlaw/R. Terry/Tim Thomas
Nowitski/Bass/Thomas
Lopez?/Damp/Diop for MLE

you posted this in another thread all by itself too. That's kinda duplicating if ya know what I mean... Like I said before, Sterling won't give up Maggette for Stack and Terry.

Detroit fan here.

Sorry guys but our pick is not for "sale" but you might be able to aquire it in a trade. Even that is unlikely.

Pistons only have 10 players contracted for next year. Plus Joe D is on record saying this is a deep draft. Plus, there are rampant rumors Joe is trying to aquire more picks.

I think Hibbert would be awesome in Dallas, but I dont expect the Mavs to trade for a lottery pick, if they even do trade for a 1st rounder.

I see only one of 3 ways we trade for a pick....

1) Dallas 2nd rd pick (or Barea or any of our euro players) + 3 mil cash for 1st rounder

2) Trade Jason Terry for a huge trade exception and a 1st round pick

3) Slide into all out rebuild mode.

Most likely in that order too.

What about:

Howard to Portland

Outlaw and Maggette to Dallas

Stack and #13 to Clips

Yes.

I think Clips would probably want a little more though and there would have to be some others involved to make salaries work. If we substituted Wright and Jones for Stack it would have a better chance.

I credit foty on my idea of trading Bass to acquire who is taken by OKC in the 24th pick in the draft which will be JR Giddens. Foty is da man!

YDM - Dont sweat turning 40. It is just another day. 42 for me Saturday. Now 43 might be different with being in my Mid 40's.
