Paul Pierce didn't back down from Kobe

So he asked to guard Kobe Bryant, the dangerous Los Angeles Lakers scorer. The locker room was stunned. Yes, this is a prideful defensive team where guys make these kinds of requests, but he wants Kobe? Nobody wants Kobe. Certainly not when the game was all but lost anyway

By the fourth quarter, with the deficit erased, Bryant still in single digits and Pierce heaving in exhaustion, Rivers figured the point was made. He tried to switch the pressure off of Pierce, send a trap of two or three guys to handle the MVP.

And Pierce, hands on his shorts and breathing heavy in the huddle, would have none of it.

That block was **** sick. Paul measured him perfectly and timed it right. He was gritty and really stepped it up.

Someone needs to put a highlight of Pierce's tough D on Kobe to Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down"

Gotta give Pierce cred for defending Kobe the way he did.

The trash talk between paul pierce and kobe was great. It was done professionally, and each guy had respect for another. So anyway, they were both saying to each other, I will not go away, I am not backing down. And Pierce proved, no matter what the deficit is, he will never, ever back down.

The best "two way" half of basketball I have seen since a guy wearing 23 last played in a red uniform.

Historic (as in you will be telling your kids about that game, no matter what happens with the series).
