Poll: Will Monta still improve considerably after contract?

Post#1 » by Yi Jian Lian » Fri Jun 13, 2008 5:31 pm

I'm just using Kevin Martin as a comparison, but he didn't exactly shine as much as he did his contract year (this goes for a lot of people). However, there is something different about Monta. He wants to prove people wrong, he wants to be the best he can be. Do you think he'll become just a regular 18-4-4 guy or will he become the superstar we direly need at 20+PPG, 8+APG, 5+RPG?

Monta could be a Senior in college this year. Could have won the MIP two years in a row. He is still learning and will get better.

Well since he was already a 20-5-4 guy I think hes surpassed your expectations.

We don't need him to get those #s... we need to win based on his play. We saw in February that if we give him the ball consistently, we force other teams to use their entire defense to shut him down. Surround a player like that with good passers/shooters, and smart defenders, and one or two post presences, and you've got a squad.

_pg #s don't mean :censored: . Hasn't rooting for Baron Davis for 3 years taught ya'll this yet?

If he improves any more, he'll surpass Isiah Thomas.

There is the danger of Monta getting "comfortable". The drive to improve might disappear... and that's what I'm worried about. Hopefully the drive doesn't disappear though. He's a great talent and has unbelievable speed and finishing ability.

The only thing I see holding him back will be his durability.

Monta drives to the lane relentlessly. I can definitely see how his durability is questionable. But then again, FSN (Comcast now) used to document how tough Monta is growing up in Jackson, MS. I think he's fine in the durability department.

I see him as a Gilbert Arenas combo guard. Someone else will have to rack up the assists and run the offense with less turnovers. The stats we see now are padded because of Nelly Ball.

I'd love to see him return to his previous defensive intensity. I'm happy with his scoring ability already. If he starts nailing that corner three.... oh man.
