Devin Hester-100 Speed in Madden

Post#1 » by SportsWorld » Sat Apr 7, 2007 4:20 pm

Hester isn't this fast

It's long been rumored, it's been hinted at, it's been lobbied for, and it's been perennially denied -- but now, an NFL player has finally achieved the near-impossible: meriting a perfect 100 in one of Madden NFL's proprietary skills ratings.

Chicago return man Devin Hester has attained perfection in the "Speed" category, gaining the maximum 100 rating in the upcoming Madden NFL 08 for his amazing wheels. Hester, who set an NFL single-season record with six returns for touchdowns in his rookie campaign of 2006, has been known as the "Windy City Flyer" for his unique ability to turn on the afterburners and bring a kick back for six points. His 100 rating tops the previous high of 99, given to such players as Deion Sanders, Randy Moss, Charles Woodson, and a couple others.

I'd like to play as him on the game. Woot-woot!
BTW, a quick question, I have a shirt that says "Devin for Seven." My friend says it means 7 touchdowns becuase he got 7 touchdowns, but I think it means 7 points becuase a touchdown is basically always 7 points.

Hester has an amazing burst, the best in the world probably. His straight away speed doesn't warrant a 100 rating though.

Yeah he was always being run down on his touchdowns, they just couldn't quite catch him until he scored.

I remember in the Super Bowl (I think it was) when he looked up at the scoreboard as he was running.

I saw this brought up on 'Around the Horn' on ESPN, but I didn't think it was actually true.

If you move him to offense on Madden, then you might as well just wish your opponent good luck.

I don't see the big deal. If you think Hester should not be a 100 just edit him down to a 96.

I loved the 2K football series. I loved the ESPN Chris Berman in it. Shame EA bought the rights and hasn't done anything with Madden since.

I think his speed rating is basically set to make up for what the programmers can't account for - which is his shiftyness. He's not a burner, in fact on many of those returns he was a step away from being pulled down from behind. But you can't really replicate his shiftyness in the game without just making him stupidly fast so he can get by everyone. So it makes sense.

I actually created him in Madden and gave him a 99 for speed and he was faster than he is. They just did this so more fans buy the game

The 2K series was mighty good. I bought 2k3 with Urlacher on the cover for $2.99 @ Blockbuster. Sometimes its fun being able to launch 50 yard bombs on every down. The graphics weren't too shabby either.

It isn't his speed so much as his acceleration. His acceleration should be 100, his speed 95-97.

Hopefully in the game right before you reach the end zone the other team just about catches him just like in real life.

I thought that TO game was pretty bad, I bought it for 20 dollars and was still disappointed. It had these weird acceleration issues where if you caught a pass standing still and there was a guy coming 5 yards behind at full speed you could start running and he wouldn't be able to catch you.

You're right, your friend is wrong. That shirt was out before his 7th TD.
