One word can sum this change up.

Brutal.

Everything seems cluttered, the original layout was spaced out nicely and just easier on the eyes. It's almost frustrating trying to read through the thread tittles now.

This doesn't make much sense to me, since the forums were already a huge success and were growing by the multitudes monthly, why the need for change? RealGM just lost some of its originality.

I don't get this.

I have never heard a single user say, A REDESIGN IS NEEDED, ever. I have heard a lot of complaints about realGM, but never about this... so why mess with peoples comfort? Is this some sort of an ego boost for some techie that needs to go from v2.x to v3.0, without at all considering the consequences.

I honestly think that the best transition for an entire user base is to make it seamless, if this update upgrades back end features, why should it break front end features that users are used to. How is mass confusion an upgrade? Why should we not have the option of having the simpler interface? Obviously going from complexity to simplicity is doable?

I just don't get how a decision of such magnitude can be made without user consent when the whole mandate of this board is to serve the thousands of users. How can this happen overnight like this? Even yahoo, hotmail, give their users the option of using the old interface.

This is really stupid and not very user friendly. We invest a lot of time here, and this place is like our living room... coming here and seeing everything re-arranged makes it very foreign.

This has to be the stupidest decisions on this board. The users were forgotten.

MJG wrote:+ I absolutely, positively hate the slide box that replaced the wiretap headlines on top of the page. It's at least twice the size of the old box, and is constantly flashing, rather than nice simple plain text that was there before. If it's not something that the site is going to give me the option to hide or disable, then I'll probably be writing a Greasemonkey script to do it myself.

A quick hack in the meantime is to add:
*[ID=newswrap] { display: none ! important }
to your userContent.css file (under the chrome directory in your profile).

Why use anti-social tactics to upgrade a social site?

Seriously guys, this is a disaster. If you have ever worked in a large organization, you know this is not the way to do things, you do not implement structural changes overnight, without training and adequate foresight.

I just don't like being treated like this, this site is about the users, not the admin... you should always make it seamless for the users.

whats with the stupid useless icons in front of thread titles? They take away from the readablity of the title, which is more important than a stupid icon wich is far from unique.

...this sucks, I am blind man whos living room just got re-arranged. I guess I have to get used to it, but honestly, this is not a user friendly transition. In a user interface friendly world a user should decide his transition, not the admin!

I feel like like my girlfriend just shaved her hair, joined a cult and spiked my drink with pills that don't agree with me.

EDIT: Also I just edited this message and there is no this MSG has been edited # of times. WTF!!! how will people know I am drunk? I like having posts with 17edits. ;)

EDIT6: I mean the icons are so large. why make them that big, a tinny icon with an impressive thread title is more enticing to the eye.

At least we can seriously worship the gods who have 20,000+ posts.

I kid, I don't really care all that much for the titles or post count, some really good posts lately from ball boys.

I'm not a fan of this new forum.

-The dates of the poster are extending into the post itself.
-Some of the posts are too long now so parts of words are getting cut off.
-The quick post is gone <-- you should be banned for getting rid of this.

I'm hoping this is all a bad dream :starwars

Should have stayed with phpBB 2.. If the "upgrade" was necessary, they should have gone to vBulletin instead of PHPBB3.. Very ugly and bloated.

After some getting used to it's not as bad but still annoying.

Hopefully what was said about the color scheme is true and it will be changed to the old colors.

The scheme now is too bright and strains the eyes.

I know it's been said but I wish the page was stretched horizonally more. Kinda dumb to have so much extra space. Widescreen monitors are becoming the norm, keep with the times.

And while I'm typing this my text blinks with the change on the "new" "wiretap" bugs the hell out of me.

One more thing. Avatars and usernames switched spots and I wish that wasn't done. I don't know of any other forum off the top of my head that does it like that. If it's kept like that can the Usernames be a bit bigger then?

IF the Forums still crash on draft day after the upgrades, I will laugh. Hard.

However, I do appreciate RealGM trying to improve the site. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Keep up the good work RealGM Admin!

Kno wrote:Guys, this is just the first part of the upgrade. There will be many things that will be worked out in the near future, all for the better. Trust me. When this is updated and polished to its finest, it will be a LOT better than it was before.

But like every upgrade, it will take some time to get used to it. Remember when RealGM decided to align everything to the left side of the page after being centered for so long? People complained for the first 2 weeks, but ever since, its been the norm and its been a part of the RealGM we all know and love now.

Just be patient. It'll provide us all with the best message board experience in no time.

Actually, beyond a few bugs that need fixing, I'm fine with the new layout, even if it is less readable. It's just change. Nothing scary.

My problem is the threads that have disappeared altogether. When is that going to be fixed? Or is it? I'd like a straight answer. Are they gone forever?

This sucks, I havent read all the pages just this last one, but I would bet that the vast majority dont like the changes. Btw, how does someone tell if they have read a thread previously, and if they had posted on a thread previously? Sorry if I am covering something already covered, but wanted to add my 2 cents. why do I have to submit more than once, and wtf, my screen keeps jumping around. I hope you get the bugs worked out, or it wont be worth the trouble to post/read here.

from24ft, looks like the "This post has been edited x times" message at the bottom of each post has been resolved.

Props to the designers taking care of that.
