Stacy King feels we should take beasley

Post#1 » by ballerkingn2 » Mon Jun 16, 2008 8:38 pm

670thescore.com report.

He said we need a post threat

He can make our shooters better.

Derrick Rose has awhile to go,and thinks we are in a win now state.

Basically doesn't think we should take anther player thats going to need time to develop with our history and still waiting on tyrus and tabo

And feels beasley height won be an issue and thinks it will step right in and get your 20/10 and be an all star. Compared him to west and brand how they over came height issues.

A bit more you should go to the website and check it out. Again not trying to bash either, but King does make a point and he should know just as much about the bulls as anyone being our 1 of our commentator.

Let me know what you guys think.

Stacey King has been saying this for about a month on every show he has gone on. No real news here.

Is he aware that we just hired VDNegro as our coach. That doesn't exactly scream "win now" (and I'm a fan of the hire).

As it happens, I'd kind of like Beasley myself.

But I do appreciate the rich irony of a Big 12 scoring forward chosen way too high in the draft advocating that we take a Big 12 scoring forward with the #1 pick.

A rookie coach and the youngest team in the league. Not necessarily a "win now" scenario.

Not that I have anything against winning now.

Stacey King is only good for jokes and laughter, and the "sign the poster" inserts.. Spare us with the deep analysis and thought, Stacey.

I am still miffed at Stacy King for making fun of Johnny "Red" Kerr's candy choices.

I have agree with Stacy. We have already spent the past several years waiting for our players to develop. Personally, I will have a difficult time make excuses about how Rose is going to be just like Deron Williams...if I can only wait two more years.

"Win now" may be an overstatement, but the Bulls fans have waited long enough for some serious excitement. AND for a player with a dominant offensive game.

Of course, it will be up to Pax and his team to determine if B-Easily has motivation issues. If he does and they see danger signs, then Rose will be our man and I will live with that. But if Beasley continues to demonstrate he has more talent, and shows that he doesn't have motivation or personality issues, we HAVE to take him. This is what the entire board has been crying out for for the past five years!

As for Stacy's recommendation...people usually don't like what they see in another if what they see is themselves. I'm kind of relieved Stacy likes Beasly. That means he doesn't think Bease is lazy and about to become fat.

We were supposed to be in the ECF at minimum last year. That is win now.

We have two players (Gordon and Deng) who Paxson believes are allstar level players. That is win now.

We averaged 43 wins the past 4 years...we're win now.

You guys totally misinterpreted the Del Negro hire. It isn't that hard to see why we hired him. Gordon and Deng were crushed when we failed to hire D'Antoni....so what does Paxson do....hire a coach that can run D'Antoni's offense to please Gordon/Deng.

"Win now" implies a closing window of opportunity. That doesn't describe this team at all.

Its called getting BACK to winning now and positioning ourselves to continue to win for a lot of years to come.

We arn't going wrong with either Rose or Beasley. Both are going to be all-stars without a doubt. But it is anybodies guess on who will be the Superstar.
Why so serious?

I'm disappointed in Stacey. I thought he would know better than to say something like that. It's nice to see his optimism for next year, but that comment diminishes his credability in my book.

No it doesn't. Win now implies that you want to win now.

Hornets are win now. Do they have a closing window?

The best player from the draft usually shows it pretty fast. Very rarely will he pop up and be the best a few years down the line...that is more the case with old school high school players. Now with having to go to school for one year, I think it will be less likely. If they aren't showing they are the best in the first 2 years, they never will likely never be the best in the draft class.

From the year before the lottery to 2005 draft...

Year: ROY / BEST

1984: Michael Jordan / Michael Jordan
1985: Patrick Ewing / Karl Malone
1986: Chuck Person / Chuck Person
1987: Mark Jackson / Scottie Pippen-Reggie Miller
1988: Mitch Ritchmond / Mitch Ritchmond
1989: David Robinson / David Robinson
1990: Derrick Coleman / Gary Payton
1991: Larry Johnson / Dikembe Mutombo
1992: Shaquille O'neal / Shaquille O'neal
1993: Chris Webber / Chris Webber
1994: Jason Kidd-Grant Hill / Jason Kidd
1995: Damon Stoudamire / Kevin Garnett
1996: Allen Iverson / Kobe Bryant
1997: Tim Duncan / Tim Duncan
1998: Vince Carter / Dirk Nowitzki
1999: Elton Brand-Steve Francis / Elton Brand
2000: Mike Miller / Michael Redd
2001: Pau Gasol / Pau Gasol
2002: Amare Stoudemire / Amare Stoudemire
2003: Lebron James / Lebron James
2004: Emeka Okafor / Dwight Howard
2005: Chris Paul / Chris Paul

So you have 1985, 1987, 1990, 1991, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2004.

Looking at the 1995 on ones is pretty easy.

1995- Kevin Garnett was a high schooler.
1996- Kobe Bryant was a high schooler.
1998- Dirk Nowitzki was a 17 year old from Germany.
2004- Dwight Howard was a high schooler.

These really young guys were fresh out of high school, and didn't have the benefit of college weight training, and had a greater adjustment time to the league.

2000- Michael Redd was a 2nd round pick. Crap draft. As a second round pick it took him longer to get into the rotation.

Then looking at 1985, 1987, 1990, and 1991 you just have to look at the college stats.

1985:
Patrick Ewing: 14.6 PPG 9.2 RPG 3.6 BPG (Senior)
Karl Malone: 16.5 PPG 9.0 RPG (Junior)

They were pretty equal, and Malone was a year younger. Both were great players here, their legacies about the same as a result of neither being able to get a championship.

1987:
Marck Jackson: 18.9 PPG 6.4 APG (Senior)
Scottie Pippen: 23.6 PPG 10.0 RPG 4.3 APG (Senior)
Reggie Miller: 22.3 PPG (Senior)

This one is pretty interesting. During their senior seasons, Jackson took a small step back in assists, while Miller in scoring...well I guess Jackson's wasn't slight...as Miller decreased about in 3 PPG and Jackson in 3 APG...and 3 APG is more drastic. Miller/Pippen were a tad bit better by the numbers.

1990: This is the one that you think supports Rose over Beasley, right? Not quite.
Derrick Coleman: 17.9 PPG 12.1 RPG (Senior)
Gary Payton: 25.7 PPG 8.1 APG (Senior)

Stats say take PAYTON, PAYTON, PAYTON. They went away from the stats and got burned.

1991:
Larry Johnson: 22.7 PPG 10.9 RPG
Dikembe Mutombo: 15.2 PPG 12.2 RPG 4.7 BPG

Stats say Mutmbo is going to be a great defensive player. Johnson did just about what it was predicted Johnson would do...but Mutombo became one of the best defensive players like his college stats indicated.

In conclusion, BEASLEY! BEASLEY! BEASLEY!

^^That is a lot of work you went to listing out the ROY and best players so thanks for the effort. I don't think those have much to do with who is drafted here but I guess I didn't understand what you put.

As others have said, the team is not in "win now" mode although it might win its fair share of games next year. You pick the best player available and winning will take care of itself over the course of the next decade. Despite having as many good players as the Bulls currently do, I could foresee picking either Beasley or Rose and the roster taking two seasons or more to build around them and lots of players traded.

From Rivals.com talking about Miami maybe taking Mayo over Beasley:
Beasley grabbed at least 10 rebounds in all but four of the Wildcats' 33 games. He knows how to go get it. And when he gets it, he knows what to do with it. He scored less than 15 points only twice. That's ridiculous for anyone, let alone a freshman.

Don't wanna take my word for it? Here's what George Mason coach Jim Larranaga told me about Beasley after his team beat K-State in November at the Old Spice Classic despite 30 points and 10 rebounds from B-Easy: "He scores so easily, he rebounds at both ends, he plays above the rim. … He has a beautiful shooting touch, and he keeps his game very simple.

"I explained to my players he doesn't make moves; he just makes shots. He doesn't show you what he can do, then misses the shot."

Larranaga then proceeded to link Beasley to four Hall of Fame players. He spoke of a drive in which Beasley took one dribble from the top of the key and scored a layup and said it was reminiscent of Dr. J or Connie Hawkins. Then he said, "The guys I would compare him to are Wes Unseld as a rebounder, and he has Elvin Hayes' jump shot."

Anybody wanna pass on that?!?

Heck, I'm still baffled as to why Beasley isn't a lock to go No. 1 to Chicago. Beasley is the best player the college game has seen in more than a decade – sorry, Mr. Durant – and more people would realize that if he hadn't played at Kansas State.

He's an NBA-ready player who will make an immediate impact in Miami. Unless, of course, Pat Riley and Co. have a brain cramp. Mayo is a fine player, but he's not in the same class as Beasley.

I suppose it's considered a good thing to be in "win-now mode" and still be the youngest team in the league.

I must admitt you put up very good arguements to make your case for Beasley. We are going to have to put you on suicide watch when the Bulls take Rose though.

Robinson was drafted in 87.

In 89' Shawn Kemp and Tim Hardaway are the best to come out of that class whom were taken at 14 & 17

GIlbert Arenas is the best too come out of his class, if you think it's Pau Gasol you are nuts.

I still say Baron Davis > Elton Brand but thats debateable.

As of right now Paul Pierce > Dirk

Yes , yes. Well played sir. I'll admit I was lost halfway though the post, but your conclusion made it convinsingly clear.

Rose = ((Beasley - Payton) x Mutombo) / Pippen's RPG
