Minnesota Gophers

Post#1 » by john2jer » Sat Apr 7, 2007 5:39 pm

Can we have a Gophers specific thread since it is "big time" area college football?

I'm pretty excited about the verbal commitments from Sam Maresh and Ryan Grant. Maresh will be a monster LB for the Gophs, Grant will likely end up on defense, Safety maybe? Linebacker?

Plus, Maresh said he'd start actively campaigning for other metro juniors to commit to the U. Michael Floyd from Cretin and Blake Sorensen from Eden Prairie would be his first targets according to him. Getting Grant from EP hopefully leads to Sorensen. EDIT: Sorensen has already signed a LOI with Wisconsin. Mobley would be nice from EP, though. Arizona has been going after him, they need to stick to basketball.

Brewster could actually be turning this around. Get the big time local kids to stay, plug in a few guys from his contacts on the east coast and from Texas, we might actually be able to get excited about Gopher football. Brewster can definitely recruit, let's hope he can coach too.

I think that was supposed to be a joke.

Is it possible to throw a short pass over the middle to a 5'4" receiver? It's pretty much guaranteed to either go over his head, or drill a lineman in the helmet.

I grew up with Willie Mobley. We called him Woody when we were younger. He moved away and I haven't spoken to him for a few years. He was one of those wimpy kids who cried at the slightest feeling of pain. He was always pretty big for his age. He taught me how to C-Walk when we were kids when C-Walking was the ****.

Anyway that's my rant on Willie "Woody" Mobley. It would be nice for him to sign with MN but I don't blame anyone who leaves this state. The weather is horrible and the new stadium won't be built for another few years.

The Gophers also got a verbal from John Nance, QB from CDH. He cited the coaching staff having strong faith in him becoming a good QB. I wonder if they were lying to him or if they plan on using Clint Brewster at another position. Apparently with this signing and the other signing of RB Shady Salamon (best friend of WR Michael Floyd) makes it appear that the CDH kids aren't too good for the U of M anymore. The Gophers are also showing interest in a couple of other CDH players.

Speaking of the Brewster family, Clint plans on enrolling in summer school at the 'U' so that he can practice with the team over the summer and enter the starting QB competition with Tony Mortensen and Adam Weber.

As for Tim's other son Nolan who is also a top-rated prospect at safety, he has committed to Texas. I think its safe to say he won't be changing his mind like his brother.

I played football and wrestled in HS at Champlin Park and Bill Maresh, Sam's dad was the head wrestling coach and freshman football coach. Sam was about 10 years old and his bro Mike was in 8th grade when I was a senior. I use to drill against Mike all the time at practice. Seeing Sam now compared to back then, it's crazy seeing how much he's grown. When Mason was still coach I was almost positive that Sam was gonna go to NDSU to play with his brother which would have been cool too because they'd have an all Champlin Park LB core with Mike, Sam, and Ramon Humber. IMO the Gophs should have recruited them too.

I am technically not breaking my vow since this is a Gophers thread and not a Vikes thread.

I saw my old friend Willie Mobley at the gym this past week. It was good to see him again. Needless to say, he's gotten much bigger since the last time I saw him (some 4-6 years ago).

I did mention something to him about what schools he was interested in but I would rather not share it on here.
My Kobe Bryant website I designed myself: http://personal.stthomas.edu/dnnguyen/kb24.
