My god. Where the hell is the closest Mariners fan? I need to socially-awkward high-five somebody.

Ex-hippie for GM.

This is so getting stickied. Best elevator music I’ve ever heard.

*and by NO MORE I mean in 4-5 years after the damage is undone from Bavasi's tenure and Messrs. Lincoln, Armstrong and McLaren are summarily canned.

Step one of the Bulltalk rebuilding plan complete. How about Billy Beane? Lure him north with a 100 million plus payroll.

How plausible is this? I'd love it, but I heard he's involved in a lot of different, non-baseball business ventures in the Bay Area. Plus, he'd be villified in Oakland for leaving to a division rival.

Money talks though, and we could pay him a boatload.

Some discussions on Brian Cashman possibly being the GM if the Yankees play more suckish this year and don't make the playoffs?

Here's a comprehensive list of top candidates:

No mention of "RealGM consortium", however. :(

The popular dream candidate seems to be Antonetti from Cleveland but, as far as I can tell that has little chance of happening. Logan White’s an interesting choice and there’s a small blog-push for DePo but I’d seriously love to see Kim Ng as the next Mariners GM.

One of the more important questions that arises from the Bavasi firing is the future of Bob Fontaine. Fontaine’s a Bavasi guy and, whether you love or hate their recent drafts, Fontaine’s been an integral part of it.

Update: USSM has a very good read on Antonetti:

I don't like this idea BBJ. I don't like the idea of a GM that doesent have american ties, a japenese GM IMO will not make the bold moves that this francise needs. Most are just to conservative, now I might be wrong on this person as I know nothing about him, and am useing the sterotype of all jaanese people here so is their something special about him we all don't know about?

Hey...first time I've been able to access this board in three days. I was ecstatic Bavasi was canned...but it's just a start.

So long as the M's new GM shows an ideoligical shift by the front office to at least embrace new school, I'll be pleased with whomever it is. I don't want to see them just replacing Bavasi with someone who's going to make the same mistakes for the same reasons.

i like the candidates from the marlins and angels.

the marlins seem to know what it takes to build a team with young talent and get them to the world series and win it! even though it means selling while hot. but i think they have a good eye for talent and getting the right people.

of the angels, they have been a contending team for some years and i think that the M's need someone that knows what being a contender is like and feels like and build that same environment.
