Bill Cartwright being interviewed for Asst Coach

Post#1 » by walkingart » Tue Jun 17, 2008 8:42 pm

Bill Cartwright is being interviewed by the Suns today, and it is confirmed that Majerle (who was a teamate of Porter's in Miami), along with EJ, Chambers, Hornicek, and Mike English of the Spurs will all be brought in to interview for Assistant positions.

Also, Alvin Gentry and Humphries will get a chance to interview as well.

According to Gambo and Ash on KTAR Sports.

I like Cartwright, if Silas doesn't want to come in as an Assistant.

I was about the post the same thing. The Spurs guy is Chip Engelland not Mike English according to the Suns.com guy. Also Suns.com brought up the name Mike Sanders.

LOL, that sounds right. Except they called him Chip England. I guess I just liked the way Mike English sounds.

Is that the same Mike Sanders that played for the Suns?

I believe so.

EDIT: Also Buck Williams will get an interview according to the east valley tribune. I wonder if the fact that we are looking at big men coaches means that Silas is out of the running.

Let's get Scott Williams as an assistant. He was great to our organization and franchise. Pure class.

And those qualities make him a good coach, why? his coaching experiences included what? Bill Cartwright is not pure class in comparison?

Kerr knows Cartwright, he coached him in Chicago. If he was not a quality guy, he would not be interviewed.

I didn't compare Williams to Cartwright. But didn't Scott love this franchise and say he would want to coach for them in the future? I could be wrong, but it's just something I remember in the midst of all the stuff over the years.

It's Arizona baby! Ofcourse he wants to coach here, its where he makes his home when he is not freezing his balls off in Brown Town!

We can't just hand out jobs to every former player who lives in town, there are far too many of them.

On a side note, I really like the way Buck Williams played the game and is an intriguing candidate to me.

I would really like Cartwright to be an assistant coach here. I would really just like a former NBA center doesn't really matter who as an assitant. I thought not having a big man coach really hurt us last year.

Cartwright is an interesting thought, familiar as he is with the triangle offense Phil Jackson ran in Chicago. He's also a big dude, 7'1 and strong, who was once a 20+ ppg scorer for the Knicks. He might do well with Shaq.

But yeah, I think his familiarity with the triangle is of interest, given some of the sets the Suns slipped into following the Shaq trade, trying to simulate the assembly of the sideline triangle a little and working from there.

cartwright would be a good pickup for ass coach in phoenix. he's big and tough and he's got rings for bling. underrated player for a 3-time champ. champ caliber ass coach too, i guess, fwiw
