Draft Day Trades
Is there any chance that the Pacers might trade for another 1st round pick this year? Foster and Diogu have been mentioned in numerous trades. Who do you think the Pacers might target outside of the #11 pick?

Last season it was talked about of a deal that would send Jeff Foster for a mid-to-late first round pick. I really wonder if they Pacers pull that off this draft day and then trade that pick to Milwaukee for Point Guard Mo Williams who i just read on espn (i think) that the Bucks would be willing to trade him for a mid-to-late first round pick.
I mean, yeah he has injury risks but so does TJ Ford. If he stays healthy he could be a pretty good steal for us.

Re: Draft Day Trades
Sorry about responding to myself lol, but i just heard on Sporting News radio they say that the Portland Trail Blazers are looking to trade the 13th pick in the draft. Could this be our jackpot? What would it take to land that 13th pick i wonder? Shawne Williams and something? Include Jeff Foster? Idk what garbage they could send us to make that possible. We could draft a Russell Westbrook and select a Jordan, Randolph, Arthur or Speights.
Imagine if we ever traded O'Neal on draft day? We'd have a brand new ball team.

Re: Draft Day Trades
I'm pretty sure we could trade Jeff Foster to get another 1st rounder, I just don't know that we'd want to do it. First, we'd have to take back around $4.4mm in salary filler. Second, there's a statistical likelihood that, in the long run, the pick we get would never be better (or even as good) as Jeff Foster. It's almost a certainty that they wouldn't be as productive in the short term.
I do think we're trying to get back into the first round, but I'm hoping that we're dangling guys like Diogu or (maybe) Williams, along with #41...perhaps the Daniels expiring.
I guess I'd think about it this way: Would you trade Jeff Foster for Deandre Jordan straight up?
I wouldn't...I'd consider that the classic dollar for a lottery ticket exchange. The dollar's extremely unexciting, but it's probably (almost certainly) going to be worth more than the lottery ticket.

I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Re: Draft Day Trades
As the draft comes closer it seems like the top PG prospects (Westbrook, Augustin) aren't going to be there at #11. I believe Gallinari is going to be the prospect that falls out of the top 10. It would be very smart for the Pacers to try and get a pick in the early 20's so they can try and get Chalmers because there isn't much left after that.
Also, just because POR is looking to move #13 doesn't mean they are auctioning it off. POR could be looking to move up, which is what I think is more likely. It was never said that PA didn't want to be in the 1st round of this draft.

Word on the street is the Nets gave Gallinari a promise he wont fall past them, if he even lasts that long.
I do think that one of the Augustin/Westbrook duo will be there at #11, but if not, I dont think trading into the 20s to pick up Chalmers is the answer. When you look at what we would probably have to trade to get another first rounder (Foster, Diogu+2nd rounder, future 1st), Chalmers isnt worth it. I think we make a trade for a point guard or sign a stopgap guy and wait till next year. I dont think we absolutely, positively, have to get a point guard out of this draft. There are only three guys I really like, and past that, I'd rather not waste assets trying to acquire one of these other guys just because they play a position of need for us.

I'd be OK with Diogu/2nd for a shot at Chalmers...(depending on who we take at 11).

If Gordon, Randolph, Lopez, Westbrook, and Augustin are off the board, would you trade the #11 pick for the Suns' Leandro Barbosa? Something along the lines of Marquis Daniels+#11 for Barbosa (that trade doesn't work, but something like that). I probably would. Barbosa is a lot like Westbrook except he probably relies more on speed and less on athleticism.

I would definetly do that to get Barbosa, he fills a big need for the Pacers. I do not think the Suns would be too interested though.

Re: Draft Day Trades
One move that wouldn't suprise me any is if the Pacers traded their 2009 First round pick for a pick this year. I know that would be a very hard assumption, but it's one I think the Pacers can make safely for a few reasons.
1. I doubt O'Neal is traded on draft night. From his own words, he and Bird are meeting early in the week following the draft to discuss the direction the franchise is going.
2. An O'Neal trade after this draft will assure a 2009 pick anyway.
3. Come 2009 the Pacers salary situation will have to contend with the first year extensions of Granger and possibly Diogu, whatever is in the return package for O'Neal, and still being modestly into the luxury tax bracket, so a guaranteed contract may not be in the best interest at that time.

I don't know if the Suns are willing to deal Barbosa or not, but if they are, i don't think Marquis Daniels would be much of interest for them. More like a deal involving Jeff Foster i think.

Re: Draft Day Trades
I think Marquis is a really good fit for them. Kerr wants them to get better defensively, and if they're replacing Barbosa, they are going to need an impact guard off the bench. The Suns like versatility and guys that can handle the ball, Marquis can play 3 positions as well as the point. He's not a great outside shooter, but he can create his own shot, and with 3 other shooters on the floor, it shouldn't really be a problem.

I tell you what I would do. Trade Williams, Foster, and Diogu, and our #41 to Portland for their 1st round pick plus fillers. With our pick we select Westbrook and with the 13 we select Speights. Imagine:
Westbrook
Dunleavy
Granger
Oneal
Speights
Nice lineup if you ask me. I tell you what, i am high on this Speights. He will be a great player.

That be perfect. Not to sound too greedy but if we package enough to Portland i wonder if they'd part ways with Rudy Fernandez who Larry Bird has been very high on. Another player who i'd LOVE to have here is Channing Frye. I think Portland has lost faith in him and could deal him but i think Frye has alot of potential.
And yes, i'd love a lineup like that. Even if we struggle next season with 2 rookie starters, to get a top 10 pick would be amazing.

Re: Draft Day Trades
I dont know why, but I think Brook Lopez falls to us at #11. I just have a feeling with everything that I've read that he is going to be the guy to inexplicably drop. If he's there, and we took him, or really if we took any big guy with #11, do you guys think we would make a more concerted effort to trade JO, or keep him and play him alongside Lopez (who would play the 5)? And where do you think we would turn to address the glaring need at the point?

I think if we ended up with Brook Lopez falling to us, we'd play him next to JO. Kevin Love might be a bit more troubling, but I think we'd technically play him at center as well and allow JO to stay at PF.
