Gilbert Or Elton

Post#1 » by Wizardspride » Tue Jun 17, 2008 3:47 pm

I've been reading alot of "Trade Gil for Elton Brand" comments over the last few months.
And the more I think about it...one word comes to my mind...NO.

I respect Elton Brand as a player but I think we as Wizard fans have somewhat inflated his ability.
And yes, I know Gil hasn't gotten us beyond the second round but in large part that is due to
circumstances (injuries, god-awful officiating etc.) beyond anyone's control.

And its not as if Brand has a history of playoff success either. You guys may think I'm a fool
but the person I would be most willing to trade (and I'm not saying that I want to) if the
right deal came along would be Caron.

I saw the title and thought Gil was going against Elton John in hoops. Sort of like the Charlie Murphy vs. Prince matchup on Chappell.

Sorry about the misleading title. :D

I'll change it.

no way I trade Gil for Brand. Brand is a beast, but what has he done? We have Haywood in the middle, and im sure we will keep Jamison as well. If we loose Jamison, then I would love to have Brand...but then who runs the PG?

Never IMO.

I really like Brand as a player but I don't beleive he can deliver a championship without a much more talented player teamed up with him.

I'd much rather trade Brand for Jamison (not the LA would even be interested) since that would give us a real power forward to match up with Arenas. I still believe that we'd be better with Arenas than 99% of the trade ideas I've seen floated about on the net and since no one is trading Kobe or Lebron for Gil, we just need to re-sign him and move on.

For us to be a championship contender we either need to trade Antawn for real PF or move him to 6th man and hope that Blatche blows up this year. Watching the playoffs this year has just reinforced my belief that we'll never be a good defensive team until we can put two above average defenders at the 4and 5 spots on the court (almost) all the time. Look at what Boston does with Garnett/Perkins/Brown - there is always a good help defender in position to clog up the lane because they have multiple bigs on the court so someone will always be there to back up a teammate.

With the Wizards, if Brendan (or to a lesser degree Blatche or even Etan) aren't in position, the opponent gets a layup every time because guys like Jamison and Songaila just can't defend the rim.

So the question is not what can we get for Arenas, its how can we get another big man.

Exactly what I said...that I'm glad some of you aren't the GM of the Wizards. Relax, I wasn't directing anything at you.

I knew you weren't talking about me. I just wasn't sure if you were in the "Trade Gil At All Cost"
group or not. :)

Agreed. Now if we could get Brand without giving up Arenas, we'd be a pretty tough team. Arenas, Butler and Brand is too me better than Arenas, Butler and Jamison. A boy can dream...

Gilbert is so out of here. Y'all should go head and prepare yourselves. Seriously.

Exactly, best post in the thread. Trading Arenas for Brand does nothing but swap one piece for another. We turn a weakness into a strength but lose that much needed elite scorer who can create off the dribble for himself and others.

We need either Blatche to grow up or find a physical big man to play alongside & behind Haywood.

Gilbert for Elton Brand and Haywood in the middle? I'd do it in a second. Throw in Jamsion for Maggette and then I really get excited about this team. We're not going anywhere with these guys right now, it's time for a change.

How could anybody even consider this trade? How about off of pure entertainment value. I would much rather watch Gilbert(top 5 most exciting player in the nba) over Elton Brand(undersized powerforward)
