It's hard to argue against you when your point is, if the ball wasn't in Pierce's hands other players would of had it and we would have won.

Do you even have a point? Honestly go ahead make a logical argument for why with out lineup out there the ball should of been in House's hands, no wait Ray Allen, or hell the man that **** up last night and most of these games offensviely when it counts KG.

I'd love to hear it. The magical offensive plan that is better then layups and free throws for the Celtics. That would of won game 5. Hell I'll even start the sentence for you

Instead of running pick and roll with Pierce/KG the celtics should of done...

Well, obviously that play was working for us.

My point is, though, that other players are taken out of the game when one player takes it over.

You start from the premise that players go hot and cold, are involved in the game or not, based on a variety of factors. Look at Game 4. We were **** in the first half, gold in the second. What was the difference? It's obvious that players don't play the same all the time that they are out on the court.

Then you try to understand what some of the bigger factors are. IMHO, one of the factors that makes players be "on" is that they are actually participating on both ends of the floor. Coaches recognize this, and talk about the need to get players "involved in the offense", and so on. If you take an extreme and unrealistic case, let's say that a guy plays 48 minutes and doesn't touch the ball once on offense until the fourth quarter. Do you expect him to knock down a shot in rhythm the first time that he touches the ball? Of course not. Sure, nothing that extreme ever happens. But the less involved someone is, the less likely they are to come up big when you need them.

There are other ways of saying the same thing. Tommy always talks about how players run the floor for Jason Kidd, because they are rewarded with the ball. Well, to me that implies that if you are not rewarded with the ball, then you are less likely to run the floor. And in a set halfcourt offense, if you are not rewarded with the ball, then you are less likely to do what you are supposed to do and be ready when the ball comes to you. It is human nature.

Now, look at Game 4. How did we win? We used pick and rolls from Pierce, but everybody on the floor was 100% involved in what we were doing, and ready when their moment came. So our offense was more balanced, less predictable, and we got some wide open shots. We couldn't do that in Game 5 because our players lost a lot of their edge earlier in the game. At some point in the first half they started to stand around and watch Paul Pierce, just like we were watching him, instead of playing the game themselves. Then when they tried to turn it on, it was too late.

I don't want to take away anything from Paul Pierce's individual plays. He is awesome. But in Game 5 it was the whole grew up in L.A. thing, this was the defining moment of his career, whatever--he took it upon himself to take over Game 5 early. For about 3 quarters nothing that he did looked forced, even though he was 75% of our offense. I mean, the man is amazing. But in the fourth quarter he threw up a lazy jumper from near the top of the key without passing to anyone else, Doc called a "don't take hero shots" time out, and personally, my heart started to sink into my stomach. The writing was on the wall. If he could have kept it up for another quarter, great, we would have won. But he couldn't, and that's not a surprise, it's kind of what you expect at this level. And nobody else was ready to fill in, because you can't just turn it on and turn it off. If you could, then there wouldn't be any need to give the guys the ball four or five times in a row to "get them going". But there is that need, because again, you can't just turn it on and off. And how do you give the ball four or five times to four or five guys halfway through the fourth quarter, to get them going, when they are ice cold and the game is on the line?

It's a team game. Yes, I saw Michael Jordan's career, but he was unique. There is no one in the league now that could do what he did, just as there is no one in the league that can do what Bill Russell did. You don't model your game after those guys, you model it on a team concept.

this is one of the most embarrassingly short-sighted and naive threads i've ever read. those prematurely complaining about garnett's play don't deserve to celebrate the title he just brought you.

F-that

Nobody needs your permission. KG himself said he played like garbage. We expected more, he expected more and we got more. I think that everyone on both sides of the subject will enjoy it just fine, be on you way.

I don't feel people are hating on him. They just expect a little bit more from him. I hope he has a huge game six, something like 26 and 16. Let's get the title in 6.

I was really close. 26 and 14, baby! This is what happens when KG plpays in the paint more.
