so are you asking him to play only in the playoff?
That is exactly it...the injuries. The guy hasn't been durable since his second season and many speculate that it is partially due to the wear and tear of playing basketball year round. Playing year round is a grind for guards let alone a guy that tips the scales at over 300 pounds. Now factor in the fact that he is returning from a career threatening injury and some are concerned that he may be rushing his rehab so he can play for China which will only exponentialy increase the chances of him getting another injury, whether it is another stress fracture or something else due to the fact that he may have to overcompensate and put added stress on another part of his enormous frame and you have the recipe for a concerned Rockets fan.
I'm not insensitive to his plight at all. Yes, playing for ones country is important and I don't have a problem with that per se, but the NBA is what is paying most of his bills and he hasn't had a healthy season in quite some time. Saying people only want him to play in the playoffs is an exaggeration and you can't blame NBA fans who have zero affiliation or interest in foreign basketball for wanting to see him be successful in the NBA just as I can fully understand his duty to his country. My understanding doesn't mean that I have to like it, but the Rockets knew of his obligations when they drafted him so it is what it is and people like myself just have to deal with it as long as Yao suits up for the home team. I just hope that he has taken every precaution and is fully cleared to play before he steps foot on the court again or the Rockets franchise will have a bleak future for the next several years.
