Or....his own son just wasn't good enough cause we have so man quality QBs so instead of backing up his entire career, he'd rather go somewhere we're he's got a shot. Yeah, I like that version better. And trust, it's gonna take more than a year to undo the damage Glen Mason did with his bad relationships around the state.

He isn't a stud LB, he is a stud saftey. We're perfectly fine at Saftey next year with some very good prospects coming in. The kid would have had to compete to start and it wasnt a sure bet he would. Plus Texas is infinately better than Sconny and Minny so how can you talk trash, I'm sure u've lost many to TX

My bad. But yeah, he was a safety. And also, it was Texas. I assure you it came down to us and Texas and given Brew's affection for Mack Brown and the Texas program and how Nolan grew up kinda in that program somewhat while his dad was coaching there, it's no surprise that he chose them over us. That's probably the only school he would have picked over Minnesota IMO.

How you gonna pull out a basketball clip in a football argument?

Wasn't pulling out the clip for anything to do with the discussion, dunk just made me think of it.

I don't see how it can be said that "Brewster is keeping the top recruits in state," if you preface it with "Well, except the ones that are going to top programs like Texas." The POINT is to keep the kinds of kids who go to Texas, to OSU, to Notre Dame in state. That's good recruiting. Brewster let them all get away.

Oh, I get ya. I agree, he hasn't done it yet. I also don't believe he's really failed yet either. You really can't expect the man to walk in and immediately recruits will just flock to the U for their football now. Like I said, he's got some utter indifference toward the U from recruits to overcome. The fact that he's even getting these top guys to put the U in their their top mix is impressive to me.

Yeah, I'm not making any snap judgments about him, I was just curious about the optimism regarding Gopher FB from the first page of this topic. I don't see it. Hoops has a bright future, but I don't see any evidence that football has turned it around yet.

Understandable. I know I'm excited about the potential. Kinda like the Wolves, whether it's realized or not is still up for debate, but it beats the constant mediocrity that engulfed both programs over the past few years.

Brewster's kid's not from in state, though, he's from Denver.

I think it's a bit unrealistic to expect him to keep just about every top recruit in state the first year. I was impressed he got 1 of 3 in year 1 of the recruiting rebuild. i think the class he put together this year confirms his reputation as a recruiter. There are still huge questions as to whether he has the ability to coach 'em up, but getting that type of recruiting class to a situation like the Gophers during/after last season is fairly impressive.

The Big Ten Network will be carried on Comcast cable, which includes most of the Twin Cities.

The sides officially announced their agreement today.

The deal had been close since March, and is good news for fans of University of Minnesota sports. The university had several events on the network last season, including football, men’s and women’s basketball and men’s hockey.

The Gophers’ football opener Aug. 30 against Northern Illinois will be aired by the BTN.

Comcast is the largest cable provider in Minnesota, with about 600,000 subscribers (including western Wisconsin), and serves much of the metropolitan area.

Charter Communications, which has about 300,000 subscribers in Minnesota, and Mediacom, which is right around 110,000, aren’t believed to be close to deals with the BTN, but an agreement with Comcast will help jump-start other talks. The BTN already is available on DirecTV and Dish Network.

Well to the best of my knowledge we have quite a few gopher players playing in the Howard Pulley summer league. I want to know how they are doing.

..........

Ok I found an article talking about it.

I searched the other day and couldn't find any stats though. Why is everything so hush hush on this?

On the football side of things, anyone remember Cory Sauter? He was just hired as the QB coach at my school.

I met Daniels one morning waiting for some Jordans. This was pre-rape allegations. Big dude, a lot of unfulfilled potential. His problem is he's not fast enough to play LB, maybe not enough quickness off the snap to play DE, and not enough bulk to play DT. He did OK as a fullback, but he should be used on defense.
