GSW/Phoenix

Al Harrington + #14

to Phoenix for

Boris Diaw + #48

We shave a little payroll, get a SF/PF who is a playmaker, shed the dead weight that is Al Harrington and still retain two picks in the draft to get a couple players to fill out the roster for cheaper than a first and a second rounder.
The hottest of takes...

don't like the idea of losing Harrington's range (need to replace his ability to spread the floor if we move him), but I would consider this trade IF you replace giving up the #14 and instead just give them our 2nd rounder.

Harrington and the #49

for DIaw

Diaw has a much worse deal at 4 yrs/36M compared to Al at 2yrs/19.4M. Phoenix is anxious to ship him out since they have Grant Hill at the 3 and Amare at the 4.

I do think Diaw is a better player than Al in our system, as he could be a post playing 4 or 5 in Nellie ball. Although our rebounding would still be piss poor and that is a major concern to think about. A Wright/Biedrins/Diaw front court hardly solves a lot of our existing problems.

This seems like a lateral move when considering the problems we would still have in the front court as well as the risk of taking on an expensive player that has been an underachiever for most of his career.

Even if Phoenix offered to throw in their 2nd rd pick with Diaw for only Al, I would still pass.

A pretty lateral move and I think the #14 pick can produce a solid nba player. With Nelson at th helm GS has gotten good players in the #10-24 range.

Are you kidding? The Suns should be giving up incentive for us to take Diaw's awful contract off their hands, not the other way around.

Diaw + #15

-for-

Harrington + Belinelli

That's a deal I would do.

I'm with you on this, but I would remove Marco and give them our second rounder this season. They will be dumping 17 to 19 mil and two extra years on us in Diaw. I really think the Warriors would like to get a two for one deal for Harrington as that would add to the bench which is going to be sparse with the cap concerns.

as this point, i think it's a good idea to take a chance on Diaw given that his skillset will be a perfect fit in Nellie-ball.

he comes with some baggages - namely the motivation issue, but Nellie can maybe get through to him better than his old coach - D'Antoni. and with his offensive responsibility likely to expand compared with his days in Phoenix, he should be motivated to play.

if he can keep himself in shape and play hard most of the time, we'll have ourselves a pretty good point forward in the next few years.

With Diaw''s lengthy + expensive contract this has no hope. I like Diaw but he's basically a very pricey 6th man who's behind Harrington as a scorer. The Suns giving us Diaw + #15 for Al's shorter deal and a rd 2...that I'm fine with, but no way does GSW turn 14 into 48 and Al's contract into Diaw's.

I suggested Harrington to Phx for Atl pick and Diaw before the end of the season and i was almost run off the board because the Atl pick wasnt going to be a lottery pick and Diaw is complete garbage. Go figure. Apparently Diaw isnt a piece of garbage now. Maybe some of you guys have actually seen him play now.

Then we take the 14 & 15 + and trade for an even lower pick (sub 8) and pick up a real 4 or 5.

Seen him plenty . . . since Atlanta, when he was a 2 apg G/F rather than a gimmick F/C.

Diaw isn't garbage, but he's a system product, and definitely a gimmick player. He has never been more of a power player than Al. He doesn't rebound better, he doesn't block shots better, and he does less to bother bigger guys in the paint. He also can't shoot from distance, and an observer who has been watching him since before these playoffs probably saw some of him in ATL, and would recognize that his passing is in now small way amplified as a Phoenix "system" product.

He plays with a superstar PG who sets an unselfish tone. It's easier to be a passer on Phoenix because they have a culture of sharing the ball, and they all move without it. Here, we don't work without the ball to create passing lanes (except for Dre) and our two most dominant players set a selfish tone. Diaw is largely a stationary player himself in the halfcourt, so it's not like he's going to be cutting and flashing all that much himself. Diaw here becomes just another undersized, low% gunner playing out of position. (And he has a conditioning issue.)

At the same $9 Mil, with 5 years to go? No thanks to Diaw, definitely not in this deal. Aside from there being plenty to indicate that he's actually a lesser player than Al, we need to upgrade the POWER in our power forward rotation. Diaw does not accomplish anything on that front. Quite simply, this deal doesn't make us better. WHat we gain from his playmaking doesn't offset what we lose elsewhere (or his contract.)

Hell, I also might even like Beli's upside at more than Diaw at this point (and that's saying something.)

Some have said Nash is a system product as well. That does not mean that he would not be a good player on another team, nor does it mean that his emergence of being a "top pg" was due soley to playing for D'Antoni.

Diaw is not a great PF, he's not a great defender, he's not a great rebounder, he's not a great passer, he's not a great ball handler... but here's the thing, he's better then Al at all of those things. Al is a better shooter. Al is more confident his his game then Diaw is. Diaw is 10x as talented with Al having more guts. The simple truth is, given both of their flaws, Diaw is closer to what we need then Al is.

Diaw will definitely get on everyone's nerves as he passes up open jumpers and passes from right under the rim. He'll also give us great versatility, move the ball, and D up on anyone on the court. Very good combo F coming off the bench.

As far as Diaw's contract length... THATS the reason for getting the 1st rd pick.

All that stuff is just plain wrong. It's starting to look like YOU had never seen Diaw play except for the season he had to play huge minutes with Amare hurt. That's not who he has been in any other NBA season, before or since.

There's something a wee bit unobjective happening here. Diaw's Dunleavy but with a little bit worse J.
