TJ Ford

Post#1 » by PopAGat » Tue Jun 17, 2008 7:25 pm

Raptor fan...

Hmm, There was talks on the Raptor board about TJ Ford to Seattle. And I'm wondering what you guys would realistically give up for Ford.

Would you guys do

-TJ Ford

FOR

- #4 pick
- Large contract

The logic behind this is that, theres no guarantee you guys draft bayless and when/if bayless gets drafted...obviously he needs time to develop. In Ford you have a proven PG that can put up 12-14 pts a night along with 8-9 dimes on around 45%+ shooting. Btw he did shoot 46% from the field this year.

Now, I ask...

Do you think hes worth the deal above ? What are you guys willing to give up ?

Sorry, the number four is too much for T.J. It's obviously his injury history, but even so, a #4 is too high. I'm a big fan of his, though, and would do it for less.

Problem is we have no real large contracts. Also, number 4 is too large to trade for TJ.

I didn't come up with this. Blame the threadmaker. I wouldn't do this myself, I just wanted to see what Sonics fans would say. If your going to say anything, go to the raptor board and say it there. ;)

TJ Ford is physically very similiar to Ridnour. We have tried small, weak guards. There production is similiar also. So, I would reject this trade. We need an upgrade at PG. We need someone that has the size to defend and also an offensive game.

Screw TJ Fords bad attitude about playing behind Calderon, his contract and his injury history. He isn't worth the #4 he isn't even worth the #24.

However.

Jeff Green, D Wilkins, S Sene + A Griffin for Jose Calderon in a S&T seems like a great deal.

or

Chris Wilcox & Damien Wilkins for Jose Calderon in a S&T

You are CRAZY if you think Jeff Green will EVER be apart of ANY trade for Jose Calderon.

Agreed. I like Calderon, but even I wouldn't part with Green for him. Youth movement baby!

I'm one who likes TJ Ford. Since I subscribe to Raptors TV I watched well over 50 Raptors games this past season. Ford can energize a team and can be a great catalyst in fourth quarters. He sure would be a big, big upgrade for Seattle.

But I just don't see it being the right move. Ford would become the highest paid player on the Sonics, doesn't fit the youth movement(as someone put it), and even though he is great at steals, he can't lock his opposing pointguard down at all. Plus, he usually has classic up and down seasons rather than be steady alll along like Jose Calderon.

I think Seattle looks elsewhere.

Raptors like Wilcox

I know there are people very high up in the Raptor organization who like Wilcox very much and would love to see him in Toronto. I also know the people in Seattle are quite high on him, too, and it’d probably take a larger deal than simply Ford for Wilcox to get anything done. If he goes, the Sonics really don’t have a four to replace him.

I think he’d be a good fit witht Raptors, actually. And with one year and $6.75 million left on his deal, he’s pretty affordable.

Raps fan, yeah asking for the 4 is crazy, IMO Seatle being able to keep it is key for them having interest in any For deal. That way it would allow them to address adding anotehr piece i.e. Mayo

I suggested,

Wilcox, Watson and 24th

for

Ford and Humphries

I'm oficially on the No thanks to TJ Ford Bandwagon.

He's a really talented guy, but i'm too worried about him having a hard fall and being forced to retire because of it.

TJ Ford cannot stay heathy. Watson has been pretty durable over his career. While Earl's stats are not as good, you have to discount Ford's numbers for the fact he rarely plays more than 50 games a year. A good second PG would be necessary if you take on Ford. Indeed, he should be the second guard. His history of injury prevents a team from building around him. Ford's trade value isn't that high.

Humphies isn't even under contract and clearly isn't the equal of Wilcox. So the Sonics would be giving up way too much in this deal. Any deal with Toronto would need to start with Calderon. Calderon had one good year. He may be over valued by the league at this time. Calderon + #13 = #4. I am not a big Calderon fan, however. I think the Sonics are better off keeping the pick.

How about TJ + Bargnani + 17th for Wilcox + 4th? as the principles with other salaries either way to match?

It's not terrible Champipple, but I don't think that's the direction the Sonics want to go.
