James Posey??

Post#1 » by 76ers76ers » Wed Jun 18, 2008 10:45 am

Is he free agent next year?? And if he is, you think the sixers have some interest in him. I don't know the age and all that but I'm kind of suprised that no none even mentioned about him during the offseason or did you. I think he is a great defender and as you seen in the playoffs, a great three point shooter. A excellent bench player and possible starter.

I said Posey was a huge pick up when they got him, and he definitely was well worth his salary. Posey and PJ Brown are those last pieces you add that give you veteran experience, toughness, and are a little cheap. In the playoffs, and especially the finals, these types of players are incredibly valuable. Ainge deserves credit for getting these players, along with drafting players like Powe and Davis. Anyone would have made the Garnett and Allen moves, but these types of playoff tough players were huge additions.

Actually, they caught flak for both moves, particularly the Allen move. Ainge was killed for the Allen trade.

A small contingent felt the Garnett trade made them too thin and too old.

Without KG, the Allen trade made no sense.

I remember that I called Posey a great defender (which is no revelation to those in the know) in the Atlanta series, pointing out how Joe Johnson performed well against the Celtics double team while Iggy was completely choking against Detroit's double team. All people could see was T. Prince and how Boston didn't have a defender anywhere near as good as Prince. Well I hope that a few weeks later those that didn't know about James Posey's defensive prowess are now in the know...

The Ray Allen trade was a GREAT trade considering who was drafted from the 5th pick on. Also, Paul Pierce isn't a 25 year old who has years to wait for a rookie to develop. Who would have been better than Ray Allen in the Lottery for the Celtics? Jeff Green? Yi Jianlian? Corey Brewer? Brandan Wright? Noah? No. No. No. No. No. No. Ainge leveraged the value of the 5th pick wonderfully and it also resulted in a HOF player from the Timberwolves deciding to approve a trade to the Celtics as well.

Because he's easily the worst player that has ever played in organized sports.

Easily. He only went for 28 on a road win against the C's.

That happened during the regular season right? Yeah it must have, the Celtics didn't play the Sixers in the playoffs because in the playoffs Iggy choked miserably...

to answer the original post,... i believe posey has a players option for less than 5 mill next season. its concievable that he could chose to test the waters and become a free agent.

but i dont want him on this team. seems like a good guy, but at sf and sg he would take minutes from guys we need to develop to see where this team is at and what it can be. may help us win a few more games, but i want iggy to learn to guard the teams best guy, not bring in a veteran to do it for him when we really arent contenders anyway.

now, if we make a trade for an upgrade and sign brand, and look like we can make the second round in the eastern conference, then i have some interest, but probably not at the price it would cost to get him.

i think the sixers are in a strange place with their two "building blocks" in iggy and thad because they man the two swing positions and that negates looking to attain a lot of talented guys out there who play the same spots

Sendem, Posey is a very good defender. Id take him on my team any day, but he is no tayshaun prince.

(besides, I think we all knew Joe Johnson had more offensive talent to this point than Dre)

Prince and Detroit contained him well, actually. Iguodala's clutch, but he has to get better offensively still. Also Philly has to get better offensively which will make it easier on Iguodala.

He's probably more of a #2 guy, as well.

No interest. Overrated defender, streaky shooter. Doesn't do much else. No inside game.

NO THANKS

We do need to have interest in a player like Posey, but the need will come in a year or so if they improve to the point of being a contender. While I have a hard time stomaching cheap players, PJ Brown and James Posey are both the types of players that are key late in the playoffs. The are chippy with the other teams key players, defend hard, take the hard fouls, and still can contribute some positive aspects on offense. Unless all of the NBA officiating 'issues' lead to the league changing the way they manage the post season, these types of players are actually a very valuable component of a championship team.

Doubtful that we can pry Posey away. I would go after him if we were a contending team. He serves more of a 6th man role in this point in his career, but I love what he brings to the table.

So did Chase Utley and Ryan Howard in last years playoffs. I take it you want to get rid to them also.

First time in playoffs without an Iverson=not a choke artist. YET.

Posey is not good for this team unless we get brand or randolph (dont want him) and get rid of Green or Carney. Sendem, did Iggy turn down your advances? Is that why ur so mad at him?
