Dumb Kravitz article on the Celtics

I'm not really a Kravitz basher. He's not the best sports columnist in the world, but he is also far from the worst.

This column is just mindless, though. Fingerpointing at the Pacers for not being in a position to follow the Celtics' "blueprint"?

Here is the Celtics' blueprint: Mire yourself in mediocrity, trade away some of your best assets for piles of steaming ordure, have a year where you are so dreadful that you have the league's second-worst record but still only end up with the fifth pick in the draft, then wait for the Minnesota Timberwolves to decide they are ready to trade you one of the league's best players for 40 cents on the dollar, despite having better offers from other teams. Good plan!

Kravitz says a lot of silly stuff here, but the capper is he actually praises the Celtics for trading the Top Ten pick that became Brandon Roy for Sebastian Telfair, like that was some kind of brilliant foresight.

There is no "blueprint" here, and certainly no reason to sledgehammer the Pacers. The Celtics got stupid lucky, period. I wouldn't want the Pacers to follow that "plan" even if it was a possibility.

And you have to figure the Celtics have not yet paid the fiddler. They have basically mortgaged their future for probably a two-year window, maybe three, depending on how long Allen and Garnett can hold up. Is that worth a championship, maybe two? Absolutely. But they are on the Miami Heat "blueprint" and are going to be a pretty awful team in a few years, with no draft picks and once the Big Three get old. Wait and see.

Well that's my rant for the day. Discuss amongst yourselves.

Had Garnett not been available at bargain basement prices, the Celtics would be the Hawks of the last few years.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

All the Celtics' title win does is give all teams some hope that you can turn around in one season.

Danny Ainge didn't take a single risk, heading into this season. Sure, they might have SOME issues in a few seasons when the 'The Big Three' get old, but adding players like Allen and KG are no-brainers.

He also got lucky when McHale deciding to give him a "teammate" discount. Larry, sign us up for one of those...

True, but only a few of those teams have so many young players and high picks to offer. Alot of teams have the expiring contracts but players like West, Green, Jefferson, Gomes and i think they had the 6th pick.

It was the fifth, and it was shipped to Seattle with West for Allen.

I don't see a player like KG hitting the trade market for a long time. You simply don't trade that type of player in their prime. Players like Ray Allen may still hit the trade market, but I think KG was really the key acquisition. It's wishful thinking to think the Pacers can get that type of player in a trade anytime soon.
